LSUHSC CARE Program Information

Published

Hi. I am applying for entry to LSU's CARE program for my Accelerated BSN degree in August 2008. I am just getting ready to send my application off, and was wondering if anyone here has done this program, or is currently enrolled in it.

Mainly, I'm curious about the admissions standards. I have always been a very good student, and maintained above a 3.5 in college. I also have an advanced professional degree in another field. I am hoping these things will make me an attractive candidate for the school. I am curious how competitve the program is, especially for someone who is not a Louisiana resident.

Also, I'm wondering what the program is like. I know that it's got to be pretty intense if it wraps up all the nursing education into 18 months. What is a typical schedule like? How many hours a day and things like that?

I'm really excited about this opportunity, and looking forward to reading any responses here. Also, if anyone is currently applying as well, I'd love to connect with you so we can bite our nails together.

I'm not so sure the program has caught on. Those I know with a prior bachelors have gone/are currently going to Charity or are in OLOL's accelerated ASN. Several traditional BSN students I know are also on their second degree but had no desire to be in an accelerated program.

cpkrn2b2011 I know there have been students that decided to drop into the traditional program after the first semester. How long is the traditional program for people that hold a Bachelors?

We only had one person go to the traditional program and she said they told her she was the first CARE student to actually ASK to go to traditional (everyone else was there to repeat a failed class). Traditional is the same for everyone, regardless of educational background - 6 semesters (3 years). It was easy for her to drop back after the fall sememster because CARE takes the first semester at the same pace along with the incoming sophomore class. After finals in December, they went on a month and a half holiday break, and we kept on going at our now-accelerated pace. We'll graduate in May 2011 and the sophomore class we started with (along with our former classmate) will graduate in May 2012.

Sorry I havent repilied to the thread earlier I stopped getting email alerts. Anyways I would want to meet up the other care X hopefuls and care students on April 10, if you all are still interested. I am so nervous and excited about are interview! Congrats to us all! :yeah:

I meant our not are.

Sure I would love to meet all the care x hopefulls and I am excited as well and nervous. Wish you luck and hope to see you all soon :-)

Hey everyone! i got a call for an interview for april 15th. :D good luck to everyone!!!!

Awesome!!!! Good luck hopeful Care X

Congrats to all that have interviews scheduled! For those who haven't heard anything yet, don't despair, the administrative staff is pretty overworked and the school could def use some improvement in terms of embracing information technology, so unfortunately, last minute notifications are the norm.

Our class (C8) didn't have the interviews, but cpk's class did. From what the faculty have told us, a student or two from C8 will be paired with a faculty member and conduct the interview. If I find out more specifics for the format, I will pass them along. CPK's advice is really the best...be yourself and answer honestly. Mostly interviews are about seeing how a person conducts themselves. Don't try to BS your way through some answer you think the interviewer wants to hear. For example, a question I plan to ask is, "If you had to choose between getting an "A" in a theory class or a clinical practicum class, which would you choose and why?" There is no right answer to the question, its whatever you feel.

CPK...I hope to see you Monday afternoon!

Yuppers, I'll be there Monday. I think you know who I am, but I'll out myself cause I know who you are :). As for the interviews again: there were 2 CARE VII students and one administrator in my interview. I like your question, it hits home for me right now. I got A's in Foundations lab and clinical but theory was a nightmare. I never thought it would be that way, but at least I know I can perform well.

I'm sure my CARE buddy will be there on Monday, but I'll make sure to hit you up too :D.

Laters. Good luck everyone!

The last time I checked this thread it was through an email on my phone. Since I wasn't logged in I didn't receive any additional responses.

This board is great and I love the Feedback we get from the current students.

So I was not able to do the 10th because I couldn't take any time off work that weekend to fly in. My interview will be on the tax day the 15th. cpitch2010 I may see you there on the 15th.

I fly in on a red eye on the 14th and I fly back the afternoon of the 16th. Let me know if anyone wants to meet up during that time.

Good luck everyone!

What time slot did you take? I'm at 9am! :) I can't wait!!
