Hi. I am applying for entry to LSU's CARE program for my Accelerated BSN degree in August 2008. I am just getting ready to send my application off, and was wondering if anyone here has done this program, or is currently enrolled in it.
Mainly, I'm curious about the admissions standards. I have always been a very good student, and maintained above a 3.5 in college. I also have an advanced professional degree in another field. I am hoping these things will make me an attractive candidate for the school. I am curious how competitve the program is, especially for someone who is not a Louisiana resident.
Also, I'm wondering what the program is like. I know that it's got to be pretty intense if it wraps up all the nursing education into 18 months. What is a typical schedule like? How many hours a day and things like that?
I'm really excited about this opportunity, and looking forward to reading any responses here. Also, if anyone is currently applying as well, I'd love to connect with you so we can bite our nails together.
Oh my gosh! I had a missed call from 504 area code 1:09 PST and I just noticed now. I called and fell upon voice mail. So I will call back in the morning.
Oh my! There was one missed call at 1:09 and another at 1:11. I just saw it and was kicking myself that I didn't check my phone earlier. It is 3:35 PST now and 5:35 CST
Gotta look for flights and hotel now. Anyone want to meet up that weekend?
Hey Everyone,
I just found this forum after I googled "LSUHSC interview" ... I see that some of you have received interview calls. I applied and have not heard ANYTHING yet. I was just wondering if anyone reading this has any information on interview calls. Was is a board member calling? Was it a 504 area code? I wonder if they have called everyone yesterday. I had a gut feeling yesterday that I should check up on the status of the application process and see if anyone had heard anything...
Anyways, if someone reading this knows anything about the interview calling .. any info please post! Although I have looked at other routes, LSUHSC CARE seems like the FASTEST and the BEST route to getting nursing BSN... the other program is ASN.. then I'd have to go from RN to BSN... Congrats to everyone who has heard back! That is really exciting, hope I see you all.

I wouldn't worry yet. They will probably accept around 40 or so students which means they would interview 3 or 4 times that amount. They are not going to be doing all the interviews on one Saturday. Just hang in there. They will probably be calling people for interviews over the next two weeks.
clssygrl80 I don't think it is alphabetical as my last name starts with "L" which is smack dab in the middle of the alphabet.
I would not start analyzing their process. I have found with these various admissions procedures there is absolutely to rime, reason, or pattern of any kind.
We started with 55 students and CARE VIII had close to the same number. If they plan to accept as many as the past 2 years, then I'm sure it will take them a bit of time to contact everyone eligible for interviews. Hang in there! I know it's nerve wracking, I've been there. I think my heart was beating in the pit of my stomach for 3-4 straight months this time last year. From what I heard last year, approximately 90 were interviewed. Not sure how many actual applicants there were.

90 is a lot less than I would have expected for 55 slots. It sounds like they are expecting to take everyone they interview. Well, 55 will get acceptance letters and then there are always people that get but on the waiting list as alternates. I am surprised as the number seems low.
The info on the number of interviewees last year came from this website, so take it with a grain of salt... LOL! I'm not so sure the program has caught on. Those I know with a prior bachelors have gone/are currently going to Charity or are in OLOL's accelerated ASN. Several traditional BSN students I know are also on their second degree but had no desire to be in an accelerated program.
I know I had no clue CARE existed until I was accepted at Charity and this was 2 months before the application due date. I was doing some scrambling, for sure. Glad I did.
