LSUHSC CARE Program Information

Published

Hi. I am applying for entry to LSU's CARE program for my Accelerated BSN degree in August 2008. I am just getting ready to send my application off, and was wondering if anyone here has done this program, or is currently enrolled in it.

Mainly, I'm curious about the admissions standards. I have always been a very good student, and maintained above a 3.5 in college. I also have an advanced professional degree in another field. I am hoping these things will make me an attractive candidate for the school. I am curious how competitve the program is, especially for someone who is not a Louisiana resident.

Also, I'm wondering what the program is like. I know that it's got to be pretty intense if it wraps up all the nursing education into 18 months. What is a typical schedule like? How many hours a day and things like that?

I'm really excited about this opportunity, and looking forward to reading any responses here. Also, if anyone is currently applying as well, I'd love to connect with you so we can bite our nails together.

LRMama....I too was nervous today, but I'm sure you did well:

well hope we both get in

Hey clssygrl80, I think we had our interview scheduled at the same time. Ten was my time but I got to interview early.

I hear over and over how people think they blew it and then they get accepted. We are always so hard on ourselves. I am sure you guys did fine and we will all be meeting in a couple months.

Any tips for those of us yet to interview? Were there any questions you felt a bit stumped by?

First off, congrats and good luck to all those who have gotten interviews!

I, however, have not heard one word from LSU since I dropped off my app back on the due date. One question I have for those who interviewed today is: were there multiple interviews going on each half-hour? I read earlier in the thread that the interviews today were from 9:30am to 2:30pm. If they were only doing one interview per half-hour, that would mean only 10 interviews. So, there's got to be more interview days than just today and the 15th, right? Hanging on to my last sliver of hope here. :)

I have another question for those that interviewed. Did they say when they would be sending out notifications about acceptance?

Thanks!

I am not trying to withhold any information about the interview I just honestly went blank. The part of the interview I remember was when I started to relax and they allowed me to ask the interviewers questions. There seemed to be many interviews going on simultaneously. One thing I can say for sure, I was suprised at how kind everyone was in the interview. Not that I thought they would be mean but the students seem to be extremely friendly and nice. There seem to be many students conducting interviews so who you get is a draw.

As far as acceptance letters goes, they probably didn't tell me when they would be sending them out, because they are not planning to accept me.:bluecry1:

While the one of the students who actually participated as an interviewer can give a definitive answer, I don't think they really come up with "unique" questions. There seems to be a set of questions that they must ask and I'm sure they are coached on how to ask them. Reading what everyone has said about their interviews, what other people who interviewed at the time I was have said, and comparing with my remembrance, we all seem to have a similar experience. There are too many opportunities for legal problems if inexperienced interviewers are allowed to formulate their own questions. LSU is much too cautious for that!

beejaycee, I am sure your right. In my nervous mind I construed that because the student would be interviewing me that they some how had their own questions. I think the instructor told me she would not be doing the interview but the students had questions for me. I some how misinterpreted it into they came up with these questions. Thanks for clearing that up, now I feel like a big dork.

Stop! You are being way too hard on yourself.

now I feel like a big dork.

As ChanelCinq say, stop being so hard on yourself! Once you get into the program, there are plenty of people who will willingly pound on you as they try to stuff the information you need into your head* so you need to get into the habit of treating yourself right. In fact, that is good advice for all who actually make it into the program - be good to yourself; in August, things are going to get rough!

*2007 CARE pass rate for NCLEX = 100% so it is a pounding with a purpose!

I agree LRMama stop being so hard on yourself I'm sure you did great Cheer up
