LSU CRNA

Published

I just got the call last week I have been accepted to LSU! Starting Aug. 2010. Does anyone in the program have any advice on apartments in New Orleans or taking any of the classes early this summer?

I did not know I had all the replies until today I logged on to look at something else. I only got an email notification with the 1st response. Thanks for all the advice about the area. I will look into all the diff recommendations for housing. Congrats to the others who got in! Look forward to meeting you! And to answer the interview questions I was asked two basic clinical questions and the rest was getting to know you type questions. They were really nice! So don't stress

I am excited to meet all of you... Did you have to request for them to evaluate/review the class at Kansas State for acceptance or had they already approved it for transfer prior to you enrolling in it? Have any of you taken the class through Unversity of Phoenix? Just trying to get an idea.... thanks for any input any of you may have...

I asked what stat class would transfer and she wrote down a few and this was one. I called Phoenix and they were telling me there was some grad level prereqs to take theirs so I just went with k state, it's going good so far. One thing I learned about Phoenix is that you can start any month you don't have to wait on the next semester to start, so that might be a good option. Maybe whoever you talk to will know more about if there are prereqs or not. My husband will be looking for a job when we move so if anyone knows of anything let me know. He has his associates in business and has mostly worked in sales and retail:)

Just be careful, because they OK'd a class for a friend of mine who went to LSU CRNA program and they later told her that it was not the right one and she had to re-take it.

Hey TXFLIGHTRN, have you heard from LSU yet from your interview? If so, when did they call you. A little discouraged because I have not gotten a phone call yet. I guess what is meant to be will be.

LSUtgr44 - I got my phone call earlier in the week. They told me when I interviewed that they were going to let everyone know either way by the end of the week so perhaps there was a delay since this week was actually the deadline for all of the applications as well...

MSRN - where are you and your husband moving from and where are you thinking you will live?? My husband and I are having trouble deciding where to live... we like the Slidell area, but I am worried about the commute times in the mornings for the first semester anyway...

We were looking at Metairie and some apts in the city. Slidell looks nice too but I thought it might be too far. We are going to look around in person in 2 weeks. When I was there for the interview I didn't have time to look around. I just went straight there and back. Does your husband have to find a new job?

You should really stick to Metairie and the River Ridge area. I grew up in the area the commute in the am and pm is terrible from Slidell.

My husband got a job working for an Orthopedic Surgeon. He is a PA. We also looked at a few places in Metairie and some condos/apts that actually were really close to the school... like The Preserve and The Marquis. It just seemed that rent was so much cheaper for what you could get in Slidell and I was told that the traffic was not very bad before about 6:45 in the am. It's kinda hard not being from the area... where are you guys from?

They told me during the interview when I asked how the classes were lined out that we actually start clinicals 4 days/week and class 1 day during the Spring semester and we know those are early mornings so we really only have class 5 days/week the first semester. Still just trying to iron it all out and make a decision... The auto insurance was ALOT more expensive in New Orleans than Slidell as well so we are just trying to get it all ironed out and find out things to help us make the best decision.

Natbug - about how long of a commute is from the Riverridge / Metairie area. It seemed that it took us about 20 minutes when we drove it during the middle of the day, what about during prime traffic time?

The reason I suggested Metairie/River Ridge area is that during rush hour, you have all of the side-roads that you can take (there are alot) and you can stay off the highway. The commute from Slidell probably won't be too bad at 6:45am. If you need a real estate agent, my Aunt is one and she works for a local real-estate agency and she can be of much help if you want her contact info. Just let me know. - nathalie

We live about 6 hrs from there at the ms/tn state line in Southaven ms just outside Memphis tn. Where do you guys live? I would like to rent a house and have been looking a lot on craigslist. Where do you guys live? That's good that your husband found a job. My husband is not in the medical field so he will probably have a harder time. When do you plan on moving?

Specializes in CVICU.

We are looking to move in the next month so my husband can get started. We are currently living in Springfield, MO. This is where my husband graduated from PA school, we are originally from TX.

I checked out the online class through Kansas Sate, but I couldnt find out how long the class was. Aren't you taking your stat class there? How many weeks is it? It is half the cost of phoenix....

natbug- thanks for the info, send me your aunt's information via pm
