LSU CARE 2015

Published

I turned in my application on Jan. 15th so it is probably too early to hear back anything, but I wanted to start a thread anyway. This is my 2nd time applying to the CARE program (missed Statistics the first time). I think I have a pretty strong application (all A's and B's, good recommendations, 6 years working as a Patient Care Technician, etc) but I am worried about one thing: at the last nursing school I attended, I got kicked out for cheating. This was over 5 years ago and I obviously wasn't in the right frame of mind--I had recently gotten out of an abusive relationship and I was living in a state with no family or friends or connections. I also chose to work full-time and I didn't have a car. All of these things were obstacles when I was at the other program. I was about 2 weeks in before the incident. I sent in the the ineligibility letter and also a statement to explain what happened. I am hoping they will show some mercy for this past mistake.

Anyway, enough about me :) Has anyone heard anything? Good luck to everybody!

The confirmation email arrived today. Nothing substantial in it, just want to be sure of current mailing address.

kdtiger, I'm not crazy, and definitely down for that if we both get in. The program will be very fast-paced and no time to do anything. I'm sure it would be very helpful to live with someone going through the same situation. Let's keep in touch!

Got my acceptance letter in the mail tonight! Anyone needing roommates, lets meet up, also.. my name is Kayla D'Angelo :]

HEY! So did I. Congrats to us! :) I'll add you on Facebook if I find you (I might be adding someone wrong, but I'll PM you)

Anybody else got accepted?

I was accepted as well! Unfortunately, the fees for the state boards were due for SLU's accelerated program before I found out if I got in to LSU. So I'm going to relinquish my position at LSU. I guess a plus to going to SLU is that I can start a semester earlier and thus be done sooner. Hopefully someone who really wanted my spot that was wait listed will get a pleasant surprise.

I attempted to apply SLU but was very disappointed at their clinical rotations, so I did not even bother finishing my application. :(

It was my second choice. I earned my biology degree from SLU and wanted to go to LSU for a whole new experience. But things have a funny way of working out, I suppose. They definitely have a great nursing program (even though their clinical rotations are all over the place), but in hindsight I would not have earned my biology degree from them, as their chemistry department is terrible and biology majors have to take 16+ hours in chem. I'd have gone to LSU. If you ever go to SLU it's for education degrees and nursing, nothing else.

I got in too yay! I'm surprised it was so early.

So my question is.. without working, how can you pay for living expenses while doing this program?

Student loans and more student loans. I managed to save up enough to have things like my car insurance paid for and basic bills, but it's not going to be enough.

I got my acceptance yesterday. Still waiting on UF, but it looks like most likely I'll be heading to New Orleans in August!
