  1. Hopeful, your inbox is full again.
  2. I got into both programs on my first try. SLU is known to be a bit more difficult because they only go off of GPA, but it was around a 3.25 cutoff for my class. LSU will factor in all of your previous experience, an essay, a pretty laid back interview, and the of course your grades. People usually at least get into one. I know you can appeal to SLU to have your out of state fees waived. I went there for my bio degree and they had people that were able to get that. I'm not sure about LSU as I ended up not going to their accelerated program. Also, neither school require an entrance exam.
  3. I'm sorry that I'm just now seeing this. I go to Southeastern Louisiana University. It's about 45 minutes from New Orleans. LSU also has a nursing school in New Orleans. Look it up under LSUHSC New Orleans. Louisiana has excellent nursing programs. You really can't go wrong in a nursing program here.
  4. You've probably made up your mind already, but if you're willing to consider out of state- Louisiana has a nursing shortage, particularly in the New Orleans area. I'm in an accelerated program and will have paid out roughly 14k for the degree. Jobs start off at 22.50 an hour plus shift differential around here. All of the nursing schools here have a good reputation as well.
  5. Student loans and more student loans. I managed to save up enough to have things like my car insurance paid for and basic bills, but it's not going to be enough.
  6. It was my second choice. I earned my biology degree from SLU and wanted to go to LSU for a whole new experience. But things have a funny way of working out, I suppose. They definitely have a great nursing program (even though their clinical rotations are all over the place), but in hindsight I would not have earned my biology degree from them, as their chemistry department is terrible and biology majors have to take 16+ hours in chem. I'd have gone to LSU. If you ever go to SLU it's for education degrees and nursing, nothing else.
  7. I was accepted as well! Unfortunately, the fees for the state boards were due for SLU's accelerated program before I found out if I got in to LSU. So I'm going to relinquish my position at LSU. I guess a plus to going to SLU is that I can start a semester earlier and thus be done sooner. Hopefully someone who really wanted my spot that was wait listed will get a pleasant surprise.
  8. I live on the Northshore, so I'll be commuting there daily. I've heard that the dorms aren't bad, but then again, it is a dorm. I'm sure there are some decent apartments in the area. I finally got my acknowledgment email today. Thank goodness.
  9. I figured they would do a second round of interviews. It's been my understanding that they've done that in the past. The woman that signed me in/out said that she would send a confirmation email asking us to validate our addresses for when they sent letters out, but I never got one. Did anyone apply anywhere else? I applied to Southeastern's accelerated program in addition to LSU.
  10. The woman in charge of it told me that the committee meets the second week of March and that letters will go out then. She's going to send out an email with all of that info. The interview went great for me. I had them all laughing!
  11. Congrats! See, it is definitely too early to throw in the towel. Good luck to everyone applying. :)
  12. They told me that, too! I asked when we would hear about interviews last week and they told me 3 more weeks...So I was a but surprised to find out yesterday what I did.
  13. No over the phone interviews that I know of. It's a faculty member and two students that interview you. BUT, I would definitely call them if I was you and explain your situation. I'm sure they will work with you on another date, that way you have time to get here.
  14. Also I was given a choice of about 5 days...All in February. And I'm almost certain they interview in March as well.
  15. From what my understanding is, at least in the traditional program, is that some groups are notified for interview dates at later times, which is one of the reasons that we don't find out until late April or early May. As for previous academic issues, you aren't the only one. You were honest and explained to them your mistake and how you learned from it, which helps out a great deal. I have a less than stellar transcript myself. While I don't have the same problems you have, I have a good bit of C's and a big, glaring D in organic chemistry staring at me.
