LSU CARE 2015

I turned in my application on Jan. 15th so it is probably too early to hear back anything, but I wanted to start a thread anyway. This is my 2nd time applying to the CARE program (missed Statistics the first time). I think I have a pretty strong application (all A's and B's, good recommendations, 6 years working as a Patient Care Technician, etc) but I am worried about one thing: at the last nursing school I attended, I got kicked out for cheating. This was over 5 years ago and I obviously wasn't in the right frame of mind--I had recently gotten out of an abusive relationship and I was living in a state with no family or friends or connections. I also chose to work full-time and I didn't have a car. All of these things were obstacles when I was at the other program. I was about 2 weeks in before the incident. I sent in the the ineligibility letter and also a statement to explain what happened. I am hoping they will show some mercy for this past mistake.

Anyway, enough about me :) Has anyone heard anything? Good luck to everybody!

    I actually was planning on starting a thread for this as well, so thanks for doing that!

    It sounds like to me you're a perfect candidate. I wouldn't worry about what you did in the past--they say they don't really care about your previous degree's GPA (only prerequisite GPA), so it seems to me that the same rule would apply to previous experiences. I wish the absolute best for you!!!

    I too turned in my application on Jan 15th, but I'm hoping we hear something about interviews soon! :)

    Thank you for the words of encouragement, mkh319! *Fingers crossed* that we both get an interview. I called the SON today and they told me applications are still being processed. If you are qualified, you will receive either a phone call or an email to schedule an interview--so watch out if you get a letter in the mail!

    Hey everyone! I applied to the CARE program for 2015 as well! I was told we would hear about interviews if we are "deemed eligible" sometime in February. Anyone heard anything back yet?!

    Hello everyone,

    I applied to the CARE program as well and received my interview email today. I'm scheduled for the 19th. Nervous is an understatement! I wrapped up my BS in biology in May and have been shadowing an ID doc in that time, working on a case study. Hopefully that helps me!

    I thought they gave you a choice of two interview times in the email and those were the only times they scheduled interviews? I don't know. I just don't see LSUHSC SON forgiving a cheater, although I was honest in my application.

    From what my understanding is, at least in the traditional program, is that some groups are notified for interview dates at later times, which is one of the reasons that we don't find out until late April or early May. As for previous academic issues, you aren't the only one. You were honest and explained to them your mistake and how you learned from it, which helps out a great deal. I have a less than stellar transcript myself. While I don't have the same problems you have, I have a good bit of C's and a big, glaring D in organic chemistry staring at me.
