LPN working as school nurse in pa

Hello, I was just wondering if anyone has any info on a LPN working as a school nurse in PA. I am starting my first job as a school nurse employed by an agency. What is an LPN role as a school nurse??? Any pointers would be helpful.

Your best bet would be to call the PA Board of Nursing. I know in my state LPNs cannot be school nurses.

Thank you! I actually found online at psea.org that a LPN cannot function independently in a school setting and has to be overseen by a CSN. A CSN doesnt have to directly oversee a lpn but has to have mininum, periodic regular communication.

I was a PDN "school nurse" as a LPN...I never addressed myself as a "school nurse", but I find that a particular agency is advertising it this way...

Just wanted to know for clarification...

Yes, I'm not sure what you are trying to clarify. & When i applied for the position it stated "RN or LPN" to work as a school nurse. So that's why i labeled myself as a school nurse. I will not be a PDN, as I stated above a LPN can work in a school setting as long as a RN is in the school or a phone call away. I am not sure where your from but every state is different. I dont mean to be rude but I have nothing to do with how you addressed yourself. Honestly doesnt really matter how i addressed myself as long I follow my scope of practice and work under a RN. I simply asked about any LPN's exp working as a nurse in a school... Thanks :)

At the OP, a PDN school nurse is different than a school nurse Health Assistant...you asked a question, so in order to elicit a more appropriate response, I wanted to know what the agency stated; I also realized my editing was a little off as well.

I was a PDN school nurse in PA. My role was to provide total care for one pt in the classroom. I did meds, restoritive care, treatments and feelings. There are agencies that advertise "school nurse" but they are talking about PDN school nursing.

LPNs and non-school certified RNs are called "Health Assistants" and take care if the healthcare needs of the children at the school...including screenings first aid, etc. There's a difference; hence my need for clarification on YOUR question; thanks! :)

I just interviewed for a Health Aid position in my local school district. I also live in PA. The only issue was that I just graduated and haven't taken my boards yet. I was interviewed by a panel. They knew going into the interview that I didn't have my license yet. I guess I nailed the interview because they said they really wanted me for the position however I couldn't be placed there because I wasn't licensed. I even tried the angle of working with my Temp. Practice permit since in the high school there is always an RN there as well however they wouldn't go for it. ? But the good news is that there is a position opening in Dec. at one of the Elem. school so they told me they would love if I could fill it. Only bad thing is now I have to wait however I'm so excited!

So I guess I'm under the impression that in the PA school districts, LPNs are called Health Aids and of course work under the RN in the district. We have our own offices and the RN just has to be available if needed which can be by phone.
