Any LPNs out there who would like to share their experience traveling? I am finishing up my last semester for RN and would like to give traveling a try before I start the job hunt for my first RN position. Been working LTC/subacute for about 2 years. Not too many LPN positions available, unfortunately.

Since nobody shared their experience, I had to venture out and see for myself lol. I'm on my very first travel assignment...so far so good...

How was it to find a LPN slot? What agency? This question get asked a lot, so anything you share will be much appreciated by future readers searching for information.

Where are you going or is it local?

I signed up and talked to several recruiters. Core medical, cross country have some LPN assignments. I noticed that you have to be proactive and don't wait on them to chase you since there are not as many positions available. I don't have a lot of experience, so that restricted my chances a lot. Not too many look for long term care. Anyway, I ended up with readynurse, they flew me to Denver, pay for my hotel which is super nice and rental car. My assignment is in a long term care facility, it is busy but nothing new as we all know.

Congratulations!!!! I'm in huntsville Texas at a state prison. I've been doing this for 2 years off and on and I love traveling.

Sorry for jumping into the thread so late...Strawberry, did you have correctional experience before you started traveling? Or did you just kind of jump in? I'm excited to hear about LPNs traveling; I have 8 years and I may just give it a try in 6 months or so. :)

Barbara are they using med aides in CO a lot yet? I heard they started training them a few years back. I got licensed in CO and worked in Lakewood my first NH. Usually I had around 35 and all the meds/treatments. It kinda sucked, esp. for a new grad!

@ Simba&Nelson, No I didnt have any corrections experience before traveliong. The place I went to had a dialysis center and I have Dialysis experience.

The facility here in CO doesn't use med aides, I took care of up to 30 residents with meds/treatments/noting orders etc. I'm from AZ and have seen med aides being used. Finishing my travel assignment next week, have been here for 13 weeks and liked it. Would definitely recommend travel nursing, it's a great way to avoid burn out.

Hi Barbara & Strawberrycool,

I am on my first travel 8-week assignment in Vermont and have just finished my first week. I was wondering if you felt like your contracts were as competitive as they are for RN's, like license reimbursement, renewal bonuses and rental cars. I also wanted to know how long your contracts were? I have spoken with ReadyNurse as well and hope to travel with them next year. I am also working in long-term care and since I've mostly been doing this for a while and found it to be the same stuff but in a different state. Thankfully, I'm familiar with the computer system so it's not all that new. Were ya'll doing electronic charging at your facilities?

@jonesgeo I don't think our Co tracts are as competitive as those of RNs. I'm in dialysis and outside of NY state I feel that I'm mostly used as a tech. The 1 agency that I work with I feel they compensate me well as far as take home and car rental. Other agencies try to low ball me. My assignments are usually 3 months. I extended at my current assignment and it's been 6 months. We electric charting at all the facilities that I've been
