LPN Student, Cried and cried...

Published

If anyone can give me advice, I could really use it now..I'm in my first month of LPN school and I've been averaging an A im math, B in A/P but then FON hit...and I got an F. It's not because I don't study, it was those critical thinking questions that got me..I have the greatest Instructors, great class great everything but me! I feel like such a failure...I know now where I went wrong...but how do I get my confidence back? Now I'm fearful of every test. I literally cried and cried. Has anyone ever been through this? Did you bounce back? Did you graduate? Now I doubt everything about me...sorry about the pity me story, but it's just being honest...I'm afraid.

Can anyone offer encouragement?? thanks for reading and responding...

Hang in there!!!!! You were doing well and then hit a rough patch in the road. I would suggest study aides to help you with the crtical thinking questions. It is difficult but the fact that you did well in Math and A&P says you have the ability to do it. Every discipline has there own unique way of testing and the nursing question format is really different. So consider the method of testing, as something you have to study, as well as content in FON. GOOD LUCK. It is normal to have doubts but you CAN do this.

Thanks for taking the time to respond..it meant alot. I start clinicals Monday!! can't wait..I see you do geriatrics..that's what my goal is...I have such a compassion for our older generation...anyway...thanks again! Have a great weekend!

You passed your exams. It just takes practice and since this is something that's new to you, it's sometimes expected. You're going to do fine. Keep up the good work and congratulations!!!!

after 3 years of Nursing school. If you do poorly on the first test... sit back and analyze it talk to your instructor. they start right from the beginning teaching critical thinking skills. that will be your biggest challenge from the git go.

Geriatrics is my specialty as well. tip... every project use to your advantage. I did my teaching project to teach CNA's about alzheimers. (as an example.)

currently I am an ADON at a LTC. i Graduated May of 07.

I too was in my 40's when I started LPN school in September 2007 and am happy to say graduated in August 2008. We started w/52 students and graduated w/17. It is a very difficuly course, but it can be done. I too cried often and lost 30lbs. But.....it can be done. I was fortunate to find a person in my class who was a similar type of studier that I was and we hit it off great and became study buddies for the completion of the course. I may have been able to do it w/out her, but I know it would have been next to impossible. So, maybe a good study buddy will help you also. I have now been working in a LTC facility for one year and absolutely love it. Nursing school was an opportunity of a lifetime.

I'm a 4th term LVN student and I found what helped me a lot through school and with critical thinking was practicing questions from Lippincott's review for NCLEX-PN. I too am in my 40's. It's tough but you can do it.

Try to remember that you are graded on an average. Figure out what score you need to pass. C=LPN

We all want A's and will settle for B's but reality is this is a tough course. FON is quite tricky, stay for extra help and ask for the instructors guidence. NEVER give up. Picture yourself at graduation. I've felt like maybe I couldn't make it with FON and Pharm, but I realized that self-doubt in itself could be my downfall. I know I'm capable and I have to master what it takes to pass. Do you have study groups with other classmates? Or a phone buddy from class to run things by that you are unsure of?

Hang in there, this too shall pass.

You just have to find a way that fits for you to study FON. I'm not a big fan of FON but it's a very important subject. If the study habits that you have been using are not working then you need to try something different.

We have powerpoints for some of our chapters and I read those. I also read the whole chapter in the book. I know that they are hard but this a sacrifice you have to make if being a nurse is what you really want to do.

Good Luck!!!:loveya:
