i am about to begin the application process for a lpn program here , the application process begins in sept and the classes start in january 2008
so i was wondering if anyone had gone through these feelings
i really want to get into this program i have wanted to be a nurse since i was a child and am now finally in a position where i can dedicate myself to a 5 day a week fulltime program, but i am worried that i won't get in cause of my high school gpa from over 10 yrs ago, but i also have transcripts from my multi skilled tech program i took 2 yrs ago and had a A average in that program, i also have some previous college classes from like 9 yrs ago so not sure if they will want to see those, so far they have only said that i will need high school transcripts. also i am nervous about the NET exam.
there is also another lpn/ adn program at another college but it is actually on the other side of the border
i am not sure if i should apply for both programs or just 1

I was told to get my application in as many places as possible.
There's also a book you can get to study for the NET exam, but I didn't find the test very hard and got in first try.
Some nursing programs don't transfer any classes in and you have to do it all through them.
Best of luck...

Don't worry about your grades. All my school asked for was my high school transcripts, not college. The good thing about that was my high school grades were better than my college ones. They never asked for my college transcripts. As for the NET test, if I can pass it (and pass it with a high average), anyone can. I even scored high enough on the math portion that I could have totally bombed the English and still qualified.
Get your application in as soon as possible though. You don't want to be scrambling at the last minute.

Have you worked in nursing (as cna), that experience and how you do on the exam will probably mean more than your high school grades.
Good luck.
yep i have worked in mostly nursing homes for last 8 yrs
i just called a few other colleges today one that offers adn program and the other offers bsn program and both say that even though my college courses are from 1998 i am still considered to be a transfer student and some of my stuff will transfer so i am considering going straight for the rn instead lpn

i hadn't been in school for thirty years. when i was in high school i did just enough to pass. back then i just wasn't interested in school. the lpn program that i applied for asked for my high school transcripts. i'm proud to say that i will be starting lpn school 6 weeks from today (aug. 1) i think mainly they just want to see that you did in fact graduate & do not need a ged. jmho

We look at a high school degee obtained in the "regular" way, although GED's get in as well (so HS grades don't matter). Any post-secondary course work, GPA is considered. Also, volunteerism, work experience, awards, community involvement, etc.
Whole, adult person, is what is considered.

I wouldn't be too stressed if I were you. Since it has been awhile since you have taken any classes, get the NET test book from B&N or your school might even have one in the bookstore to freshen up on your basic math and reading skills. I am horrible at math but I did the practice questions and learned how to do stuff w/o a calculator since one is not allowed when testing and I passed. You'll do fine if you practice and just apply to as many programs as you can so you can increase your chances of getting in. Good Luck!

You'll do fine! I am 40 years old, married, 2 kids and start my LPN program on Monday. My hs grades were so-so. I worked my way through college, and even grad school (education major in both), was dissatisfied and now I'm starting a new career! They only wanted my hs transcripts. I think, more than anything, they took into consideration my interview, essay and PSB test (I didn't take the NET). I bought a study guide at the local bookstore, took the practice test, and here I am!
You can do it--just have a positive attitude !
Keep us posted!

Your high school GPA doesn't matter, as long as you graduated. You will have to pass the TABE and TEAS which are both easy. If you don't pass them, you will have many times to study and retake before Jan.'08. I am 2 mos. into a 14 mos. LPN program and LOVE it. It is REALLY HARD (2 hours studying per chapter + clinicals) but it is the best decision I've ever made.
I am excited for you! Good luck
just thought i would update and say that i have made the decision to go for my BSN instead of the LPN since that is what i would of been going back to school for after the lpn anyhow.
i heard that after you finish a certain number of nursing classes for your bsn you can sit for the lpn anyhow?
