Hello! I graduated in October, took the NCLEX, and am now a pediatric nurse working in a doctor's office! It's been a great experience so far, and I am learning sooooooooooo much! Hope to get to know all of you better!

Hi, Paula! First of all, congratulations on your graduation! Kudos to you! I am in the 5th quarter of a 5 quarter LPN program. We actually have an NCLEX class and are going through a book to prepare these last 12 weeks. Use your CD roms--they tell us ours will be of great help. Congrats on your new job, too! I have to start studying for the NCLEX....but as of right now...i have no motivation......i have 2 review books with CD roms...... should i study all my notes too? and reread my text? What are you alll doing to prepare? did any of you have a NCLEX type of test at the end of your year? We had one and it is supose to be some indication as to how you will do on the state NCLEX...i did above average.........and i walked out thinking i knew nothing......hopefully the NCLEX will be the same:up:that would be cool... anyway....just wondering about any other GPNs... OH....and i have a job too.....it is with the handicapped who have tons of medical issues.......and...as soon as i hung up....our local hospital called(where i did clinicals) and asked me to come work...i didnt even put in an application.....now....this is a huge deal for me....i have been at home for 20yrs.....and now all of a sudden i have all these different options..... have a good nite PAULA:yeah:

Marci, Sounds like you had a good day! You'll gain more confidence and experience with each patient you take care of. And you will decrease your assessment time as you gain experience. It's fun to see things through your eyes...don't lose the excitement! Take care, Laurel

We started out with 32 students during 1st quarter. Now we are in 4th quarter, and we are down to 24 of the original 32. A couple were kicked out for insubordination and one for cheating. Most of the others left for personal reasons. If your program is as fast-paced as our program is, it is hard to pass. Right now we have 4 classes, 4 hours each that meet back-to-back on Mondays and Tuesdays, with clinicals on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Between all the homework, studying for tests,and writing care plans/drug cards and papers due for clinicals, it's crazy! But we only have 6 months left before graduation and we keep our eyes on the prize! Hang in there...you can do it!:wink2:

Are you enrolled in the ISU program? If so, what do you like/dislike about it and would you recommend it? Thanks!:)

Welcome, Everyone!:wlcmhnds: I'm so glad we have our own "space"! I am on "spring break" this week from my 15 month-long LPN program. I have 2 quarters to go and it's uphill all the way! We've had one quarter of med-surg clinicals, but didn't get much experience d/t holidays and only one day of clinicals per week. Next quarter, we do pediatrics and maternity. I am 40 years old, married for 18 1/2 years and have two children ages 12 and 15. This is my second career. I look forward to getting to know all of you and helping to support each other thorugh our journeys!

Does your book come with a CD-ROM? Mine did, and the review and game sections were both very helpful. I'd use my flashcards after that, and sort into 2 piles--those I knew and those I didn't. Focus then on what you don't know. Good luck!

We were told to bring stethoscope, bandage scissors, black ink pen, notebook to fit in our pocket, and drug book. I am assigned to a hospital med-surg unit, and will have only one patient, as this is my first clinical. I am choosing not to work, as each quarter our days off flunctuate, and I need all the time I can get to study. Wishing you lots of luck!

Hi, All! I am a student in an LPN program, end of my 2nd quarter out of 5 quarter program. I am working on an essay question for a self-study take home test. One of the questions asks how I would assess a patient with post/op pain in order to understand their level of distress. I've read the chapter on pain, and I understand all about the 1-10 pain rating scale. What other particular questions should I ask? "Where is it located? Can you describe it? Is it constant? Sharp/dull?" What else? I tried searching this web site, but couldn't find any questions to ask the patient (nor on Google). I have to turn this test in next Monday. (Dec. 3, I think). Any words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

You can buy a specific book to help you out with the PSB. It is formatted like the PSB and will give you study hints, etc. I didn't have time to get that particular book, so I went to the bookstore and purchased a book titled LPN LVN Pre-Entrance Exam, 2nd edition. I read everything twice, highlighted what was really important, and took the practice tests. It really helped me recall things I hadn't had since high school ( a LONG time ago, LOL!). Try purchasing a book and studying before you take the test again. Some schools offer a preview class before the test, which you may find helpful. Good luck!

Hang in there! I just finished my first quarter (of a 5 quarter) of an LPN program. Those first couple of weeks, I was beyond overwhelmed. It did get better, and we all got into a rhythm. Others have done it and YOU CAN DO IT! Use your fellow classmates as support--you are all in this together! And remember, this is temporary...before we know it, we'll all have graduated! It helps to have a support system at home, whether it be parents, friends, hubby, etc. My family has been great while Mom's changing careers. Have faith in yourself. Just take it one week at a time.
