LPN salary questions

Nurses LPN/LVN

Ok... I've been reading couple of topics regarding LPN pay... It's really low to the point where I don't think it's worth working getting paid less than $20. Even pharmacy technicians make close to $16/hr in illinois. So... I wonder... When you go on interview, do you ask for pay first? or how does this work? Can you negotiate? I really can't afford to get paid 14-18 dollars an hour. I was expecting as low as $21. This is scary...

Most definitely I plan to go back! Im looking at OCC or Baker!

Yes that's the one. I'm just so excited to start a job! I have been out of school since July! Waiting on my verification from Illinois! Did you work there before?

No I have a friend that works there. Have you thought about Schoolcraft College. Their LPN to RN program is only 8 months long.

Texas: Brand new LPN out of school a couple of years ago, I made $19/hr long-term care, then made $18/visit (plus $3 trip charge per pt) in Home Health, made $18.50/hr doing Crisis Care in Hospice PRN, now make $19.00 base pay working pool in a psych hospital with shift differentials as high as $2.50.

WOw thanks for many information guys. So I'm guess it depends on where you live as well like cost of living and etc? I'm currently in Chicago, but looking forward to move up to north west suburbs. So those LPNs who made 25 an hour were really lucky I guess?

I am work in Moline IL. I started in 2005 as a new grad and made $13/hr in LTC. I have since changed jobs and have work in acute care and make a whole whopping $16.99. I might make slightly more in LTC now but I have a dream job for an LPN. I have never met a LPN in person that makes $30/hr.

I didn't word that right...I have never met a LPN in the quad cities that makes $30/hr. but I have never worked in Chicago.

Thanks I will look into it. Is there a waiting list?

No first come first serve

thank you for the info! Yeah I live in Chicago, but I don't want to work in Chicago area. I'm really moving up to suburbs. Chicago is just too crazy, lots of parking tickets, camera reinforcements, and someone tried to break-in to my apt not so long ago. As soon as I find the job, I'm moving the hell out of here.

I live in Oak Creek, WI which is close to IL border and I recently graduated in dec 11. Because I have no prior lpn work experience my résumé only has my clinical rotations listed as experience. I think as a new grad with no experience, you have to start somewhere and that somewhere could mean the last pay. That's at least till u gain experience. So far I got 2 interviews. 1 offered starting pay at $17.69 and that was to work for the state of WI. I just had a interview yesterday and they offered me a job with starting pay of $18.50 hourly and weekend addtl pay of $1.00. I'm just waiting for the HR lady to call me back to okay a start date! I know it stinks to see such low pay when we really anticipate more pay but I'm content with what was offered to me. I hope you find something reasonable for you also.

Working for the State sounds great! Yeah It is kind of disappointing when I see lots of people not even getting close to 20. I actually have been working at ltc for almost 2 years as a CNA. Do you think that counts as nursing experience?

Specializes in Case mgmt., rehab, (CRRN), LTC & psych.

Working as a CNA counts as healthcare experience, but not nursing experience.

The newly-graduated LPN could have 30 years of CNA experience, but (s)he is still a new grad LPN.

There's more to being a LPN/LVN then just money.
