LPN salary questions

Nurses LPN/LVN

Published

Ok... I've been reading couple of topics regarding LPN pay... It's really low to the point where I don't think it's worth working getting paid less than $20. Even pharmacy technicians make close to $16/hr in illinois. So... I wonder... When you go on interview, do you ask for pay first? or how does this work? Can you negotiate? I really can't afford to get paid 14-18 dollars an hour. I was expecting as low as $21. This is scary...

Boston new grads between 21-25 an hr

Specializes in Geriatrics, Telemetry, Med-Surg.

That's not low. Nurses in my state would be lucky to make that much. I don't even make $20/hr as a RN.

Specializes in Clinical Documentation Specialist, LTC.

It definitely depends on where you are. In MS. most LPNs start between $12 and $15 an hour in clinics and $16 and $18 an hour in LTCs. Hospitals average about $14-$15 an hour. As a MDS Nurse I have made between $19 and $20 an hour on average and I have almost 17 years experience as a LPN. MDS RNs average about $25 an hour.

In doing research it appears LPN AND RN pay has actually gone down over the past couple of years here. Don't know about anywhere else but in this terrible economy, but that is a very sad, scary thing.

21-24/hr in metro Detroit, all of the surrounding cities

Where are you in Michigan? I am a new LPN and I was wondering what is the starting pay for new grads!

in Metro Detroit and surrounding cities. Livonia, Wayne,Southfield,Taylor. What city are you near?

I live in the Kansas City area, and new grad LPNs can expect to make 14-19ish an hour right out of school, depending on where you work (LTC pays more). New grad RNs on the floor in the hospital start @ around 21/hr without any shift bonus.

Specializes in PCU, Hospice, Psych, ICU, Case & Disease Mgmt.

22/hr in S. FL

Specializes in LTC, Rehab.

Wisconsin: new LPN grad in LTC: 17.75 - 19.25 hourly to start. BTW: if you start out and get some experience, you could work for a temporary agency and get paid more, too (probably no benefits). Good Luck !! I suggest, take what you can get so you get some experience under your belt. As a new grad, you can't bargain for anything, you'll be lucky to just get an interview, trust me on that one !
