Nurses LPN/LVN

Wondering if there are any LPNS who would like,to share their experienced with this. Ill share mine to begin with. My previous job before my current job was a great job! And I really honestly truly enjoyed it and loved it very much. I loved everything about it. I loved my patients my coworkers my supervisors my director of nursing at the time. I honestly looked forward to and enjoyed going to do work every day. It was a long term care facility, called lifecare which is a very large chain of nursing homes. At the time when I applied for the,job I was working for the state of Missouri department of mental health and the pay was crappy and the patients were severely mental and very physically abusive to me so I wanted out of there and I applied at lifecare. When they called me in for an interview and offered me a job they never once mentioned that they were in the process of building a new facility. I found that out once I started working and heard staff talking about it. lifecare also got a new D.O.N. THAT STARTED on the same day I did who was going to "clean that place,up and create the perfect strong nursing staff she needed to take with her to the new facility when it opened. All we heard was the new facility this the new facility that. Immediately the day she started she began to fire nurses like crazy. Her first couple days she fired two LPNS right off the bat. That was followed a week later by another LPN being fired. That was followed by a whole host of CNAs being fired. About a month later she fired an LPN that she hired about a month prior. Then she tried removing the MDS coordinator nurse, which was an LPN, from her position and office and onto the floor working as a floor nurse but she was able to go to corporate and keep her position. Then a month later she fired two excellent LPNS. It was a shock to many of us cause they were excellent nurses. That's when we heard and caught on that she was ridding of LPNS and going to all rns so I knew my days were numbered. but the thing was I was always told,by her I was a great nurse she wanted to take me to the new facility and that I had excellent job security and she still fired me over some BS and I honestly believe it's cause I'm an LPN. She fired one other LPN an RN and a couple nurse aides before she fired me..I was there only one year. We had no med techs there to pass meds so the nurses had to pass their own meds. there was a medication nurse a treatment nurse a charge nurse. I noticed that the d.o.n.. Would only have the LPNS and RNS pass medications and the RN BSN nurses charge never pass,meds......the new facility is like a from hospital rehab to home with mainly rns working there....we LPNS were not even given the opportunity to finish school..

Do you have a question?

Employers are free to change their staffing model whenever they want to. LTC is traditionally a 'low margin' business, so I am amazed that they are able to afford an all licensed staff, let alone moving to all-RN.

In her first sentence she asked if anyone had any experience with/like this.

Maybe the new facility's acuities are significantly higher. Like for an LTACH? Some LTCs do have a high percentage of RN : LPN staff because of the more sophisticated pt care needs.

To OP - is there another sister facility close by that you might apply to & carry over your longevity? Also, try to keep an ear out listening to where your old DON went. You might be able to follow her (or at least get a reference).

Sorry that it happened to you but when corp takeovers/changeovers happen, things can get ugly and you got caught in it.
