LPN to RN via Excelsior

Published

I have been an LPN now for 3 months and I want to start on my RN. I have talked with a rep. from The College Network and they work with Excelsior to help you obtain your Associates degree RN. I want to hear from someone who is or has attempted to do this online and see if it is good as it sounds. Also any suggestions as to another way to get it online through someone else would be very helpful.

i just got my lpn license as well and i will do excelsior college too as soon as i find out my schedule for my first job. you do not need to use any publishing companies like the college network.

excelsior college will tell you what books and chapters to study for a particular exam. i heard these publishing companies are expensive and they make you sign a contract so that you will pay them even if you don't like their study guides.

you should visit the distance learning forum and you can read more about excelsior college and publishing companies.

first thing is excelsior is not online it is a self paced study done completely at your own pace. you do not need to go with publishing companies to earn a degree from ec. the college network and excelsior do not work together, as a matter of fact ec warns you against publishing companies. visit the distance learning forum and read through the threads. the study guides they send you are expensive ( like 4-5 hundred a piece) and you are entered into a contract for several years that you cannot back out of. not worth it. there is way to many resources out there for ec students...

I have been with college network now for several months and have been very impressed with their materials and how they have prepared me for exams. It has been much cheaper than going to the local universities and nursing schools and their customer support is great. Either way u will spend about the same amount of money whoever you start with on line. Its fairly standardized.

i do not think so! you can buy the books recommended by excelsior college from ebay and halfbook.com for half the price and you are not in contract like in college network.

you do not have to start with any outside companies. start straight with excelsior college.

and by the way ec is not "on line". it is self-paced independent studying.

also, if you really want to try the college network study guides, you can buy them off ebay for a discounted price and you will not be in contract!

All i can tell u is that the overall cost has been cheaper for an rn degree that my lpn was and the materials i am using from college network are making the exams very easy to pass. I have been very pleased with the service.

You must have paid a heck of a lot for your LPN program ...

$5,700 for 12 months. And i needed the instructors at that time. The materials im using now are so specific re nursing it makes it easy to prep for a test.

this is not true. you will save thousands if you stay away from these publishing companies and go straight through ec. if you have your pre-classes done you will spend

nursing theory $205 x 8= 1640

cpne- $1825

this right here is $3465....

i have no idea about that fcc thing as i am a under the old program.

you will spend double that if you go through a publishing company and the price will go up if you have any pre- classes to take....

Thanks to all for the help you posted about EC. I will research this more indepth before I make a decision.
