I've heard excelsior is a good program. Several nurses at my old facility used that route and did well. I used them to challenge a few courese at my CC and they were great for me. But we live in NYS and the BON recognizes them. Make sure your BON does also. I decided to go the traditional route because it worked better for me. Not sure of any of the other programs out there. Good luck whatever route you take.

A former coworker of mine went through excelsior as well and she had a good experience. This was several years ago, so I'm not sure how the clinicals worked out, but she said the program was good for her.
Clinicals are a weekend at several sites thoughout the country. I know there is on in NYS and one in Texas. Check the distance learning tab under students to see info on Excelsior.

Please keep in mind that the Excelsior program is not online. (In fact, I can't think of any LPN to RN bridge programs that are taught totally online) With Excelsior, you will study on your time at your own pace, and take tests at an approved testing center. There are no clinicals. (You are assumed to have the clinical experience by virtue of already being a licensed nurse.) The final clinical weekend is actually a very intense 3 day test of your knowledge and skills prior to becoming a RN.

I am currently in an almost completely online bridge program at a local community college- and will graduate in May. Clinicals are at an assigned hospital, but are really more like a preceptorship, only for the entire program. I have worked one-on-one with an RN in the assigned area, Med-surg, L&D, Psych, etc. Summer semester was 45 hrs, fall-145 hrs med surg, L&D/peds and this semester- 180 hrs total between med-sug and psych. I have only been to campus 2 times and will go 3 times this semester. I have enjoyed this program, but it is challenging, especially working full time. Good luck.

Ah, that explainns why Excelsior was removed from the California Board of Nursing's list of authorized schools. In its stead, we got Indiana State Univ associated with California state univ at Sanoma.

Best thing that ever happened to some people. It provides a means to get an RN license to many who would otherwise be unable to obtain one. You can't criticize that fact.
