Western Career College??

Nursing Students LPN-RN

Published

I am an LVN, and I just started taking classes at my local community college to apply to their RN program. Then I got a postcard from Western Career college. Thay have an acceleratede LVN to RN program. It would be much more expensive, but faster than community college. I just wonder about their reputation. It is a new program, and Western Career College is known for their Medical Assistant and Dental Assistant programs.

I already calle WCC to find out more, but the "representative" didn't know anything, since it is a brand new program. She said someone would contact me. Of course that was before Christmas, and I haven't heard anything......

What do you all think?

Okay, this post is 2 years old and still active. I would really like to hear from the original posts to see if they pursued Western and to see how the program went. Are they having difficulty transferring their credits to the bachelor's program. Tks.

hi,

I'm thinking about going through the LVN program at WCC then doing the bridge to the RN program..

Right now I'm going to Chabot and I'm taking/have taken Anatomy, Chem, Statistics, English, and Bio..

So if I do plan to go with WCC, will they accept these classes?

Should I stay at Chabot for about 2 more semesters and do more PreReqs here, so I won't have to pay like $19,000 for them at WCC?

I also plan on pursuing my BSN afterwards if I choose this route, so does anyone know if that would be some kind of problem?

Is anybody else in the same boat as I am?

So many questions =)

Thanks!

If your goal is to transfer to a BSN program then your best bet would be to do the JC route than to do WCC. I've heard mixed reveiws about the schools. I have a friend who attended that school and she loved it. Then I've spoken to others who've attended it and didn't like how it was structured.

well I'm not going to transfer to a BSN program like right afterwards..

probably work for a while then apply to an RN-BSN program..

so would that make a difference?

and I'm trying to avoid the whole waitlist, lottery system, etc. at JCs and universities..

I wouldn't mind going through that but I much rather not =)

thanks for the reply!

what are the nine required prereqs for the lvn-rn bridge for western career college???

HI

I am an LVN recieved my ASD in vocational nursing from JC, I was originally interested in doing the ISU LVN-BSN program which is 5semesters long but some of my coworkers got serious about doing the bridge program thru WCC.

I went to an informational meeting yesterday and this is what I was told - The LVN-RN bridge program is 8months long, cost is $37K (without financial aid) and you must have all pre-reqs completed. The next start dat is 10/11/10.

You have to pass the TEAS exam with a score of 60.

For someone like me who waited 3yrs to get into JC RN program and then gave up and went to the LVN program this is the way to go.

IF you go the CA BON website you can see statistics on the pass rate of WCC RN it compares well with JC college grads.

JC college now requires you have 6month exp before you can apply for thier LVN-RN bridge program, whereas WCC doesnt.

Hello all,

I last posted here back in July 29, 2009 and was about to start the program at WCC. At this point I am in the 3rd term (out of 4) and I can really look back and say for the most part it has been a wonderful life changing experience for me.

I dont have your everyday story, being as of 05' I was homeless so I look at everything different from your student who has mommy and daddy paying for everything, or I dont have any help from family friends or anything. I basically had to tough it out and bust my tail working graveyard 40 hours a week + go to class full time.

From my perspective, WCC is the best route to go for everyday people that have worked thier tales off and never had the opportunity to go to college and lived the hard knock like and want to change thier lives. I had my ups and downs but it all worked out in the end and in 6 months I will be graduating.

Talk about being thankful the school exists....

Has anyone actually taken the pre-req for the rn prgoram at western career college. I only need to take physiology, englis and micro and really dont want to have to go thru the long hassle of taking them at a jc again. Am thinking about taking the pre-reqs at western career college and then join the lvn to rn program. any info would be helpful.

I tried for 3 days to get information from WCC/Carrington! It was kinda ridiculous... I emailed them, and heard nothing. So I tried the live chat option and was told to call a number. I called the number and was told it was the wrong Carrington College, but they took my information and promised me someone would call me the next day. This afternoon I hadnt heard anything, so I tried the live chat option again and was ignored. So I called the WCC number and waited like 20 min to talk to an admin rep. I don't think communication is their strong point... haha!

But, I made an appt to talk to the rep on Tuesday. I was told they have a pre-req program which is fantastic! Its supposed to take 16 months, but I have 4 of the classes complete already, so that'll lessen my time. If I stayed at a CC I wouldn't be able to finish my pre-reqs till spring '13, and thats with no big life issues coming up. The RN program is only 8 months, which puts the total program at 2 years. Not bad, considering it'd take me 4-5 years at a CC with no waitlists.

I'm seriously considering this route. The tuition will be a pain in the rear, but I'll be able to pay it off quickly with RN wages. The next start date is 10/11/10... anyone else considering starting then?!
