Hi everyone,

I am currently an LPN who really wants to get my RN degree.I am wondering if anyone has information about grants for long distance learning schools.I have checked with several of the schools and all they offer is a few hundered dollars off the tuition. This is good, but it still does not help me afford the monthly notes.I can not afford to quit my job to attend a local school. If anyone has information that could help me, it would be greatly appreciated.

Which schools have you checked with? Is there a particular program you're considering?

I have checked with The College Network And Rue. They are the only ones I have found that are accredited by the NLN.I am going for my ADN to start with.

College Network and Rue are publishing companies and not Real Colleges. Don't waste your money.

That's what I was figuring when you said "monthly note." Those are publishing companies, not schools. They do sound very convincing, I know! It's actually Excelsior College (EC) -- http://www.excelsior.edu -- that is the degree-granting institution, and is NLNAC-accredited. You should contact EC directly; you'll save thousands. There are plenty of study guides and textbooks out there for sale on eBay and elsewhere for much, much less. And EC also has scholarships for students. Those publishing companies charge you for materials on top of what you'll pay to EC anyway.

EC also warns against those third-party publishers:

Best of luck to you! :)

Lunah, wish you had been around with your wisdom back when I signed up with them. LOL! Listen to Lunah and NC Girl...They know what they are talking about. TCN material is good, but get it off of Ebay. Good Luck to you! Traci
