  1. Thanks so much. I truly want them to know how needed they are, I just do not want them to cause any harm by thinking they have a knowledge base that they do not.I have worked with some awesome MA's too.I have also worked with some who could have caused harm by thinking they knew more than they did. I guess I am caught up in the "first do no harm" and It scares me to think about the patients thy are gonna be taking care of. We know how bad it can be if you do things with out the proper knowledge base.Guess I just need to chill out some LOL.
  2. Thanks for helping. It always comes up in one particular class each quarter when they have to take the test on all the different medical titles that are in the Introduction in to Medical Assisting subject. This is where I have to correct all of them who get the answer wrong because they all write down " they are the same thing".And I have to give the reason why.

Hi I need some help members. I am an instructor for an RMA program. I constantly have the challenging task of getting my students to understand the difference between an LPN and an RMA.The word on the street is that they are basically the same, so students really believe this. When I try to explain this to them they think because I am an LPN that I am just trying to make myself and LPN's look better.I have tried several ways to get them to understand that just because the program is approximately the same length that the instruction is different. I would appreciate any ideas that will help me get this through to them without making them feel like they are not important as RMA's.I have really ran out of ideas. It's like saying I can do the job of an RN just because I am a nurse. It's really frustrating. They can potentially harm a patient with this attitude, just as I could if I tried to function outside my scope of practice or the proper knowledge base. Thanks for listening.
  4. I have checked with The College Network And Rue. They are the only ones I have found that are accredited by the NLN.I am going for my ADN to start with.
  5. Hi everyone, I am currently an LPN who really wants to get my RN degree.I am wondering if anyone has information about grants for long distance learning schools.I have checked with several of the schools and all they offer is a few hundered dollars off the tuition. This is good, but it still does not help me afford the monthly notes.I can not afford to quit my job to attend a local school. If anyone has information that could help me, it would be greatly appreciated.
  6. Hi Been a nusre since October 1999.Got my first of many jobs in LTC.I am now an instructor for the RMA program. My goal is to save enough money to get my RN.I love my Family and my job.Good luck to all those who are advancing their careers.
  7. I am not saying that one is better than the other I am simply stating that CMA's with a physician that trains them can do MORE than and LPN in some states, specifically Alaska. I have administered narcotics IV, per a doctors order and according to the state nursing board here a LPN can't do that. And we can administer medications as well as dispense them under the physicians order in Alaska. It does vary from state to state, but here we are allowed to by law. That is how it is in my state I currently teach the RMA program and they are certified by the AMT.They can do more than me in the clinical setting since they are directly under the MD's liscense. There is no governing board for my state as to their scope of practice.AMT simply states thet they can do anything they have been trained by the MD to do if that provider is comfortable leting them do under their liscense.
  8. I know that LPN's are being phased out in the coastal counties of Mississippi. There are only two out of 4 hospitals that still hire LPN's.And one of the two is hard to get on at becouse they only have one or two openings rarely. And in the office jobs MA's are being hired since they can do practically all that the LPN's can and they do not have to pay them as much.(injustice to MA's they work hard),Seems that pretty soon LTC will be the only option for me if I decide to change jobs.Unless by some divine intervention I start making enough money to go back to school.
  9. I Graduated July 26th 1998 and started my job October 3rd 1998.LTC 11-7 shift on lock down unit! Thank God I survived..
  10. Assesment, nursing Dx,Planning,Implementing,Evaluation, sorry I guess each school is different.
  11. HI I had trouble to becouse I would get really nervous with all the material and read WAY too much in to the questions.what bout this what bout that and so on.I had to literally train my thought process to stay focused on the basics. I found it very helpfull to answer my questions using ABC's and ADPIE.It got me through all my questions.I even wrote it on my hand LOL.just to remind me every day.
  12. I say I am a nurse.I went to liscense practical "nursing" school.I took the NCLEX-PN (practical "nursing")and I have a liscense for a practical "nurse" that is recognized by the State Board Of "Nursing". So I feel like I have every right to say I am a nurse.CNA titles end with "assistant" so there is the difference. And Be proud of what you are you earned it!!.And to the CNA's I am glad you guy's are there when I need help, you are like us you work hard but sometimes do not get the recognition you deserve. The medical field needs all it's members from M.D. to NP to RN's to LPN's to CNA's to MA's and all the others inbetween.
  13. Hi I work at a school in MS teaching MA's making 16.41 HR.I left a job in October at a Midwifery clinic making 14.50 HR .Been nursing 8 years and in this area other than the LTC facilities, this is the highest paid job so far.
  14. First things first !!APPLAUSE!! to you. I know you think this is hard now but believe me it dose get better.I know from personal experience.Me and my husband went through the same thing. His ex wife just got of jail for rx forgery!!! I mean 2 weeks ago! thats how bad she was. And I am sure you are like me. Who is the one taking care of the kids when ther are sick, need clothes, going to school functions, etc. Not that the dad does not do anything but we as women are the ultimate caregivers. But before she gave up custody she reaked havic on us almost daily (they had joint custody) she even came to my job high and started talking to every one in the lobby about my abilities as a nurse and that I was on drugs and trying to take her child away from her.She would tell my hubby that I was stalking her and all kinds of styff like you just got.this was over 3 years!!! and I could not say anything to her cause she would threaten to take him to another state and get full custody from my hubby.BUT I praid every day that things would change and we just let her go (as long as the child was not in danger) and finally she hung her self so to speak and we had enough proof to take her back to court and she decided to sign custody over. we have complete say so now and she has stopped reaking havic on us. unfortunatly she has not gotten help yet but she does not bother us anymore. So I guess what I am trying to say is HANG IN THERE it will eventually get better.I am here to lend an ear anytime. I wish I had someone to listen to me when I went through that!!!!.
  15. Hi, NO, I feel Very underpaid and under appreciated as an LPN! Dose any one know why MA's make more than me:cry:.
