Are Lpn's Being Phased Out In Ohio? I Want To Eventually Be An Rn But Right Now Its Easier To Do The Lpn Classes.i Just Finished The Ma Classes. Would It Be Worth The While To Take The Lpn Course?

I live in Ohio, no LPNs are not being phased out. It is much easier to find a job and better pay for LPN than an MA in Ohio. Hospitals are cutting out LPN in my area but there are still alot of great jobs. There will always be talk of LPN being phased out, but talk is cheap. Basically when i went to nursing school we discussed this and there would be no way to completely phase us out, without offering some type of continuing ed. program of grandfather clause.

i think theres a cycle that goes on. my co workers told me that more than 10 years ago lvns worked commonly in one of the hospitals in my area. eventually, the hospitals wanted to do an all RN and CNA nursing staff so they got rid of most of the lpns. as of 3 years ago, they started hiring lpns again due to lpns being cost effective. its a weird cycle. it seems like the hospitals never learn from their previous mistakes... i just went into the ER 2 weeks ago, and guess what i saw? 4 lpns working in the same shift at the same time.

anyways, lpns will always have a job, whether it be long term, rehab, corrections, and sub acute.

LPNs/LVNs in my are are being phased out in the hospitals (2 of the do not even have LVNs at all) but they practicly run LTC...my friend was an LVN while getting his RN and he was the nurse sup! You already have your MA, why not work and go straight for your RN? You might get burnt out going MA, then LVN, then RN....it will be a lot longer in the long run, even not counting the time you spend getting your MA...
