LPN new grad to start medsurg floor

I'm a new LPN soon to be on a medsurg floor as my first job. Just wanting to get advice from experienced medsurg nurses! I know it used to be some what of a requirement to do at least a year of MS before hiring elsewhere was possible, but that is not the case where I live. I'm actually the only one of my class to go to MS floor. I'm so super excited to get the hands on experience, but also very nervous because I know how new nurses are sometimes treated. Thanks in advance for the input :)

The most important advice is to get along with your preceptor. Actually, get along with everyone. You'll need lots of support as a new nurse and will have a much easier time if people like you and want to help you.

As far as the technical stuff goes- you'll learn that once you get on the floor. Every unit is a little different.

Organization of your brain sheet is key. If the way your preceptor does it doesn't seem to work for you, ask some of the other nurses how they do it.

I'd say definitely have organizational skills, as the floor gets super busy. Always prioritize, even if you're being pulled in a million different directions. Be nice and work as a team, always.

I am also a brand new LPN & finished my 4th day of orientation this past weekend on my med surg floor! So far I love it!
