LPN= MDS?

Published

are lpn's able to do MDS i wanted to get involved in that but i was sure if the cost of the class and certi. were going to have any real pay of for me since i am a lpn and i know that rn's are the ones that i see in the majority of ads

Mine says the same about me. My title is RCMA *Resident Care Manager Assistant*

Specializes in Med surg, LTC, Administration.

I am a LPN and I am also a MDS/MMQ coordinator. I do everything, but sign RN evaluator. The DON does that and between you and me, that is the only part she knows. I love the job, everything it entails and the money is awesome. I say, go for it. Look to work under a PPS nurse first, soak up all you can, then become a coordinator. You will be in demand, as there is a shortage of MDS 3.0 proficient nurses. I started doing LTC OBRA's and then got my shot with PPS. They will train you all the way, you don't need to put out huge bucks. It is hard to learn that way anyway. Hands on, then some seminars is the way to go. Peace!

My MDS Mentor was an LPN; she was one of the Best I've met! :)

Specializes in LTC.

I have been Head of MDS department for 13 years as an LPN for 12 of them, with the DON signing and another LPN working under me. I decided it was time to further my education for myself. These comments almost make me feel bad for becoming a RN ??? I agree that the signature is stupid but why bad mouth all RN's ? Just venting a little.
