Published

Does anyone else feel like LPN's are being fased out by hospitals. I have apppplied at a hospital in my state of OH and they keep telling me their is a high volume of application. I have applied for the same LPN position 3 times. Im frustrated im going back to school for my RN. Im just tired. :uhoh21:

Miami Valley in Dayton still hires LPNs an has a nice orientation program available from what I saw online. What area are you from in Ohio? I would like to chat with you. I am around Dayton/Cincinnati. I have thought of going to college for RN fast track? I have checked out online as well, you can go at your own pace an then take your clinicals one or two days a week. What do you have in mind? Thanks! :)

I am a new graduate LPN and i can't seem to find a job... Everywhere I look they want an RN. I worked by rear off to get my certificate to take my licensure just to find no job. I wanted to work and get experience with patient care before I went to the RN program....you know start from ground up.

I went to LPN school first so that I could bridge into the RN degree program at my college.. Now they have changed. There is no long a challenge test to bridge, and they are not sure how the last class before the change can go into the RN program.

I agree with you. I believe that the LPN is being phased out at least in my area...

Thanks for letting me vent :angryfire

Hey,

Where are you gotta make sure im not gonna go there, In some areas they are phaseing us out of the hospital, but go work in the nursing homes that's where you will gain alot of experience, I am working on my RN just in case but with the nursing shortage. I don't see why they would even consider phaseing us out.

Boy do I know how you feel. I have roughly 20 resumes out. Nothing. I had an hosp. tell me we don't hirer NEW LPN. Damn what happen to the 8years as an MA in family practice. I just didn't give my first shot yesterday. I not going back for my RN. My husband was very supportive of me for quitting my job and going for my LPN (full-tim program). But I think he has had enough of the schooling thing too. I holding out, I am going to find the job I want. No matter what they say. Good Luck

Here in Texas there is a high demand for lvn/lpn's. In the Sunday paper, there are at least 4 pages, every week. LVN/LPN's are not being phased out here.

You bet we're being phased out again. I saw this back in the early 80's and it's happening again. However this time it's worse. I have been a nurse for over 25 years. I have 16 years ICU experince. 2 years ER / MICU experience, 3 years PCU / tele experience, 2 1/2 yeras IV therapy department experience. I have a file about 2 inches full of commendations, recomendations, letters of thanks from fellow nurses, patients & family members alike. I've taught fresh RN how to work ICU, I've trained nures to work life support equipment, I've taught CNA's how to deliver patient care, I taught nurses how to do computerized nursing and the list goes on & on. I resigned my position as inter. nursing supervisor over an IV therapy department due to threats, harassment & discrimination back in Oct. of 04 and despite mailing & e-mailing resumes, taking interviews, checking the want ads faithfully and cold calling, I have yet to find employment. Everything I see in the paper calls for either an RN or a CMA, CNA or medical tech. Nothing for the LVN. Something is up. :angryfire
