I was fired. Now what?

Nurses LPN/LVN

Published

I work at a small nursing home( less than 55 residents) for a little over 2 yrs. On May the 19th a new nurse started working. She's an RN with 30 yrs experience. She was suppose to just do weekend coverage. She orientated with me for 5 days. When the new schedule came out I noticed she was scheduled the same days I was. This woman is very good friends with the administrator. When I got off duty I called the DON and asked why the schedule looked that way and she informed me that she was going to let me go because she didn't think a nursing home was my "forte". I was in shock. Never heard anything from her that there was a problem with my work or anything. I believe I was discriminated against just so somebodys friend could have a job. Meanwhile the RN has now refused to work my schedule when she found out I had been let go. Where do I go from here?

Wow, I guess if you are in the employee at will state you are out of luck, good luck job hunting, and I am sorry you are going through this. At least you can collect unemployment.

That is so sad and wrong what that Rn did to you. Instead of people thinking they are better because of their title we all should work together as a team or family . No one is better than the next person.

The RN is refusing to work those hours because the OP was fired after precepting her. It is not that RN who thought she was better than the LPN, it was the administrator that pulled a slick trick.

Union employee? If not, umemployment. And perhaps the nurse who won't work your hours will write you a professional reference for precepting her....

Many prayers!!
