I know that you guys (LPN/LVN's) can now get a load of other certifications on top of your LPN license. I know that you can get your IV certifications and oxygen and what not, but what are some of the other possibilities for an LPN?
It makes me feel silly not knowing these things as a nurse with 3 years experience or more, but I guess it doesn't hurt to ask! I try to focus on the medication and patient care part
I'm interested in getting certified in trach care for pediatrics and also ventilation in nj im searching like crazy to get certified in these areas but cannot find anything in nj. Im a new nurse working for a year and one half in home care at an agency. All places want "One year clinical experience" how can I get this experience if hospitals in nj no longer hire lpns. Its been a catch 22 for me, trying to get better at what I do but the good agencies want certifications and years of experience.
This thread is awesome! I want to be an nurse, but it's almost impossible to get into the RN programs here and being a 34 yr old divorced mom, I just can't devote that kind of time. So, I've been researching LPN's and I just sent my application to a cc here. I have to take some pre-req courses, but hope to begin the LPN program next fall. Then, I thought I'd have to take an LPN-RN program to advance past a nursing home, but it looks like there's so much more out there for LPN's than I knew!
Any advice for me before I begin my LPN education?
You can get an MDS certificate, also a telemetry certificate. We can get just about anything an R.N. gets even though they may say R.N. only .That is because an R.N. still has to sign off on those things for state reemursement issues.Drives me crazy, thinking about going back to school .Been an LPN for 24 years and am tired of no one willing to train me for something else .Good luck.

Thanks for the info. It has great on-line training. No chemical dependency cerification, though. Thanks for taking time to repond to my message.
