I am a stay at home mom and I am on the LVN wait list at my CC and I will be starting in August 2009!!! My oldest son is 5 and just started kindergraten and my youngest is 3 and by the time I start nursing school my oldest will be getting ready to start 2nd grade and my youngest will be getting ready to start kindergraten and that way I am in school why they are both in school and I don't have to worry about finding daycare. My CC said that after i graduate from the LVN Program and pass my boards they will credit me two semesters of the RN Program and all i have to do is pass the third semester of the RN Program and I am a Registered Nurse!!! I am doing it that way because I want to start working as a nurse soon and this way I can avoid taking 7 to 8 pre-reques before I can even put my name on the RN wait list. I am 31 years old now and by the time I start and finish the LVN Porgram I will be 34, if I went start for the RN degree I would be 37 years old by the time I finish school and work as a Nurse. Hope this helps:monkeydance::monkeydance:

I was a SAHM for 10 years, the last 2 of which I went to LVN school. Very weird leaving my kid for the first time ever, but it's okay.

Left the workforce in the corporate world, returned to it as a nurse!

The above poster sounds like me!

The OP was a bit unclear, are you LPN now or are you planning on becoming one when your children are older?

I know that in Canada, when we renew our licence each year, we must state how many employed hours we have worked on it. Failure to work for 1000 hours in total every three years results in no licence. Which then means back to school for a refresher course in order to qualify for re-licencing.

You might want to check into your state regulations before planning a long leave from the work force.

I was also a SAHM who went to nursing school when my youngest was graduating from preschool and going into kindergarten. Realized there was no way I could sit behind a computer all day and made a career change.

Trying to get a job now (newly licensed) and hoping to get into a LVN-RN program within the next year. I hope to be finished school and start saving for my kid's college!
