LPN interview at UFV

Published

Since I've completed the pre-requisites for the LPN program, I'm expecting to have an interview soon at UFV. I'm just wondering if anyone has gone through the interview process at UFV before and could you give me some advise as to what kind of questions I'd be expecting from them? I'm very nervous.

What about the actual LPN course is it hard?

Thank you for your help : )

I still need to learn my way around Chilliwack. On both times I went to UFV, i got lost ...even with a GPS! hehe...

Nothing much to report. Just playing the waiting game:anbd: and keeping myself busy.

8 weeks or more or waiting. I'm gonna go crazy:sstrs:

Cheers :redpinkhe

I am crazy now, I am definitely feeling the pressure.:grn: I am hoping to know by the end of this week. Curse you easter monday, no mail! Oh well, getting in is only half my battle, but we will see. I am so nervous now. Everyone keeps saying, don't worry you will get in, but I think it makes it worse. I like the idea of encouragement, but everyone that says "you will get in, don't worry" adds more stress. If I don't get in then I will feel like a failure. Well maybe only for a short while

I will go crazy this week, then hopefully have a feeling of euphoria sometime lol. How are you hanging? Has it gotten to you yet?

Calm :hpygrp: I said calm, :sstrs:, forget it LOL Even talking to myself I cannot calm HAHAHA

Nice to hear from you! I totally undertand how you're feeling but please don't worry. Whatever the result maybe, it's for a good reason. I think i've reached that point where I have to accept my fate no matter what. If this is for me then so be it. If not, then there's something better. Maybe i just need to wait a little more or another window of opportunity will come along.

What i'm worried about is quitting my job and having to rely on my family's support and student loans. I've always been independed and it's going to totally suck relying on other people. That's my biggest conern right now. If i don't get accepted this year, that means I can save up a little more for maybe next year when i try again.

Anyways, please be strong...hang in there. You've done your best, just put your worries in God's hands. Take care friend and Happy Easter!

oops i meant "independent" hehe

Hello shakeatyou! I just want to say congratulations :yeah:on being accepted to your course. I too got my acceptance letter this week:cheers::w00t:. I guess I'll be seeing you around the campus:lol2:. Just like we said....everything happens for a reason :) Take care always, nurse :nurse:

Hello :) Just was reading up on all your ladies great info! I just completed my application process and waiting to hear when the information session will take place. I was told you are given a topic for your essay before you come to your interview...is it actually done at the information session? Then they choose top people for the interview process? Also, What kind of marks, volunteer hours and non nursing classes do most have before getting accepted?(If you ladies don't mind me asking) I have applied for the January 2011 intake at UFV. Any info would be great!! Thanks!! ;)

Hello!

Congratulations on your entry. As you mentioned, yes you are given an essay topic before you write your essay. Mine was pretty much "what can you bring to nursing and why is nursing for you?". I, unfortunately do not remember what the question was exactly, but that was the gist of it. The topic allows you to prepare what you want to say for your essay, then when you arrive at the information session, they give you 30 minutes to write your essay. They do not allow a pre-written essay, and all notes are to be put away, so know in advance what you want to say in point form. If you are like me, you write things better the first time, then it goes down hill from there. So when I went to write my essay, I had basic points and wrote in on the fly.

Marks, I applied twice and did not even make it to the interview session the first time. From high school, I had a 2.67 GPA. I was previously a biology major, and had to retake high school biology. Talk about an ego bust lol. After retaking 2 of the pre-requisite courses, my Pre-req GPA was 3.5-3.8 depending on what courses they used. (I did better in chem 114, vs. 113 but they said they may look at it for example).

Volunteer hours, I had 150 from the hospital, and over 200 through work ( work currently in the optometric field with patients, so they allowed that for relevant work experience). I hear 200 hours is a good amount, but some only had 100hrs.

Non nursing classes, previously I was a 3rd year biology major, and have taken microbiology, chemistry, and many other advanced courses. So unfortunately, I do not think my courses were the norm. I am sure it helped me get in, but only once I got an interview. It did NOT however help to get to the interview process. Only once I am offered an interview, was it even considered.

I wish you luck, and if you have any other questions please let me know. Hang in there, it is really hard, and I hope you get in. Last intake we were told there were about 150 applicants for 487 seats, 33% odds, but someone has to get in. Good luck!:yeah:

Thanks so much for all your info...I've only been out of school for a year now. I have a late bday so I'm still only 18! I have all B's in my high school courses (English,Bio,Chem and math) I have over 100 hours at an acute care home. I've completed 2 of the non-nursing electives with B's and will be taking 2 more in Sept. Im just really not sure if those marks will get me an interview! I've read on here that some have gotten in with a 2.5 gpa and then of course some much higher. I may have to re-do some courses! I guess I will really focus on writing a great essay and hope for the best! Thank you so much again for all your help! So you are in your first year still? How are you liking it? I know someone in their 3rd year at ufv. She says its tough but she loves it!

Thanks !

I am not in the first year yet I start this fall. I am not liking the lack of info we are getting. I have not received a schedule, supplies list, book list, well pretty much everything I need for the program. As far as I know I will get this info on day one.

I hope you get in! Good luck. I will try to let you know how the first day goes!

How exciting! I believe you do get all the info on the first day from what I hear. You must be really excited to get things started:) All the luck for your first day...coming fast! Any following info would be great!

Thanks again :)

well, now I know I'm not the only one who is going crazy over the ufv nursing waitlists. Thanks for all the advice you all have (unknowingly) given!
