Lower Columbia College Fall 2018

Published

Has anyone else here applied to the Lower Columbia College traditional RN cohort for fall/winter 2018? I want to connect with other applicants/hopefuls!

I am taking my TEAS test on July 25th. This will be a retake for me. Last year I took the TEAS test and did not study (big mistake). My composite score came out to 70%, passing all sections for LCC except for reading, missed the mark by 3%. Also, I have 84 grade weighted admission points. Does anyone know how the TEAS test plays into the admission score? I applied to Centralia College as well, but they only use the TEAS as a tie breaker.

Feel free to post any questions, concerns, or information about the program here.

Congratulations - That's so awesome!!

Was winter 2019 your first choice?

No, winter was not my first choice. I have no idea how they choose who gets into different cohorts. Either way, I am STOKED to get in either way. Good luck! Let us know when you get your letter!

I got my letter today. I was denied. I am super depressed about it. I am not going to lie and say it will be easy for me to get over because it will not be. I have been working for this for 9 years. I have been a CNA for 10 years, and have wanted to be a nurse for forever. I did well on my teas, but not enough points for grades. I have 4 kids and it has been really hard for me to get through this. Congratulations to everyone that gets in. I do not mean to be a downer, but I need to vent to people who could understand my pain! I really do not know what I will do next! I am really upset and heart broken.

Do not give up. Retake those classes you got lower grades in and reapply for spring! Or reapply to a bunch of places! You can do this, believe in yourself and keep going. I was just thinking about this today. Last year I applied to Centralia only and got put on the alternate list - didn't make it in. This year I have had probably a hand full of people give me the side eye when I tell them I applied to LCC, like I wouldn't get in. Also, my MIL told me that like 3 people told her I wouldn't make it in to LCC.

I got accepted into every school I applied to this year because I believed in myself and I retook classes to get here. That road is long and hard, but you can do it.

The point is, forget all that crap - If you believe in YOURSELF and you have grit, it is ALL possible.

I didn't get in either. I was contemplating applying for winter/spring but am afraid I'll just end up in the same boat and even further behind. I've been looking into Sumner and think I'm just going to end up going that route. It's more expensive but I'm tired of waiting. Some nurse friends I have said they hire a lot of people from Sumner and to get started instead of waiting for an affordable spot in a CC program. The sooner you get done, the sooner you're making a nursing wage to pay it back :-)

Good luck to you Pinky! Let us know how Sumner goes! You will do great!

Congratulations! I also have a winter start for the LPN2RN opt in program. I'm very excited!

Do you know what term the Winter cohort graduates? Begins in winter with a summer graduation?

Congrats to you as well! So, the traditional RN is 6 quarters long. So, start in winter 2019 and graduates Fall 2020. December, 2020 is graduation :-)

So how does that work for you? Do you start this winter or the following winter? I have never looked into the LPN2RN, so I don't know how that works.

I start this winter. Winter 2019. The LPN opt-in falls into the 4th quarter RN program.

I was wondering if the Winter cohort breaks for fall or summer. Sounds like summer though. Thank you.

When I called Bev she told me for winter and spring the lowest score that was accepted was 53 points and the highest was 83 or 84 (I think, somewhere around there). .

This is great info! I have questions. By this score, do you specifically mean admission points from only the teas exam or from grades and work experience? Or a combo of all? I have added up my grades, all a and b's and work experience points. wondering what I need to score to be competitive. As I am currently taking microbio and hum/div which will not go towards admission points due to being in process. Needless to say I feel like I have to ace this exam

That score is probably just grade awarded points. They combine both the grade awarded points and the TEAS test score. So, yes both scores matter. You can make up for scoring lower in grade awarded by doing really well on the TEAS test and vice versa. I got into the winter cohort with I think 83 points for grades and I think my TEAS score was 84.7 or 85..something like that I forget the exact figures but somewhere right around there. I know I posted my exact scores somewhere on this forum. I did take all possible classes that I could, that counted for grade points, so that helped me big time. When are you applying? Those scores for the classes you are currently taking may count, depending on when you are applying. For instance, applying for fall/winter, in the spring you can finish out those courses and leave the grade blank. When you finish them, they input the grade you were awarded and count those points into your total.

Also, yes, your work experience points will be added in to the total score. Meaning, grade awarded points, TEAS score, and any additional bonus points you got.
