Los Angeles Southwest College ADN Program Question

Published

I got into Spring 2013 ADN Program in LA Southwest College. However, I worry about accreditation of this school. This college accredited by California Board of Nursing but not accredited by NLNAC. Is there have any severe disadvantage in the future after graduate ADN Program? I plan to transfer to BSN program in any Cal State Universities after get my ADN. Are Cal States' ADN BSN program accept ADN students who graduated school without national accreditation?

congrats that was my first choice of schooling but trade tech contacted me first. so about your questions you are fine applying to the colleges of your choice, without the NLNAC acc. but places like the V.A will not hire you.

Specializes in TCU, Post-surgical, Infection Prevention.

Of the LACCD Nursing programs, only Pierce, Harbor and Valley are have the NLNAC accreditation.

Yes, you can bridge from any California Community College into any Cal State. The bill was signed into law in 2010 at my school, Los Angeles Mission College (no RN program).

I'm going to CSUDH after my BSN, as I go there already right now for an Interdisciplinary Studies/Environmental Sciences Bachelors.

Hello there! Chiming in, as you said the VA will not hire those who do not come from an accredited college, what about if you were to go to a non accredited college, Transfer into a accredited University for bsn, would you then be eligible to apply at va? & would your classes Transfer into the bsn Program?

Specializes in ICU/CCU.

---> YES 100%, (9 LA District Colleges) just email nursing department in CSU you wanna transfer to and ask . I did, they said YES.

Transfer into a accredited University for bsn, would you then be eligible to apply at va?

---> The school you have highest nursing degree will be considered, not the one you have your ADN degree.

had anyone attended the nursing program at southwest college? if so, how long until you were notified with an acceptance letter?

Hi Tianhart19,

Did you apply to LASC for Fall 2016? I am considering applying for Spring 2017. Do you know anything about what the schedule is like?

Specializes in Psych/Med Surg/Ortho/Tele/Peds.

I attended. I believe i received notification of acceptance about 2 days after taking the TEAS.

I graduated from LASC in December 2015 and have been working as an RN since April 2016 (a month after passing NCLEX).

Nursing school is what you make of it. If you study, and apply yourself you will be in good shape. Most of our graduates get hired at main of the sites we attend as clinicals. I got hired at a Dignity Health facility.

All the best to you!
