Los Angeles County School of Nursing and Allied Health - Fall 2019

Nursing Students School Programs

Hi there,

Has anyone applied to LAC School of Nursing for Fall 2019? I thought I would get this post going so we can stay informed and help each other through this waiting process! What are your points that you calculated?

Anyone know where we can buy the kit that was mentioned at preorientation? She said it included syringes and such. I went through my packet and I can’t seem to find it

See the attached photo. I think this is it.

I am very fed up with looking for a slip-resistant shoe that actually fits and does not squeak on hard flooring. I noticed most of the nurses waiting in the HR area at the hospital were not wearing slip-resistant shoes (nor were they puncture resistant and had different colored soles).

If we wear shoes that have the same colored sole with puncture-proof material, do you think anyone will ask about the slip-resistant factor? As long as we're not working the OR (or ER?) I don't think it will matter much. I have spent weeks looking for a shoe that meets all criteria and nothing has been worthy.

I recently applied for Spring 2020 cohort and had a question about the application process. It has been a couple of days (5 days) since I applied and a little over two weeks since I sent my O-transcripts to the school. Till this day the document tracker says it's still required. On average, how long does it take the school to process the transcripts once they received them? I'm worried because if there was a delay in delivering my transcripts I want to know so that I can resend them before the deadline. I got multiple schools sending my transcripts. Am I being impatient about this? I want to call the school and ask if they received my transcripts.

Thanks,

Thanks,

Did you send any electronically? I would check either way. I had 3 different schools and my TEAS transcript sent for the fall 2019 app, one of my schools offered it electronically and LAC never downloaded it and the link for them to do so expired. I resent it via mail and they input it right away- but it still didn't make it when they needed it. I am guessing this had to do with why my application wasn't considered and I never heard back. I contacted them via phone, email and the application "question" area multiple times and it was never addressed. I'd give them a call just to be sure!

Thank you! I will be calling them first thing tomorrow.

First there was an intro lecture, then fluid & electrolytes, pain, hypertension, respiratory, and ending with cancer.

@CONAH-sn about how much did you spend on books for 1st semester? Also for the “Recommended” books did you purchase any specific drug handbook, lab test& diag. procedures book? Etc.

Where did you purchase the books for sem 1? Online?

Books are about $700 and are electronic and come with a program. You can order a loose leaf version along with it $50/book but it’s pretty much mandatory that you get the ebooks because there are assignments only accessible through the ebook program . Booked are purchased directly through Lippincott

So this may be a dumb question, but students take their laptops to class? Any suggestions in regards to school supplies?? Laptop vs tablet?

Any recommendations? Also any supplies we should stock up on? Sorry for all the questions but I’m trying to get everything I need w/out spending more than I should. Any clinical supplies other than the stethoscope?

Are we supposed to get our Fire Card/BLS before school starts or are we getting/earning it at orientation? I have my BLS but not my fire card yet.
