Hello my fellow applicants!
I'm a second time applicant to LACCONAH, I've been down this road once and came back with a lot of knowledge. From my experience this is going to be a waiting game so enjoy the ride! Y'all got questions, comments, concerns, information, don't be shy to engage. Estamos juntos en esto!
I thought I was the only one who felt like I got cut off during my interview too. My interviewer was very sweet and she asked me why I wanted to be a nurse, I began my answer with my healthcare experience and was about to continue with the rest of my answer but she cut me off as soon as I said I had experience. I didn’t know what to think of this- if it was a good thing or bad thing? At the end of the interview, she apologized and said she wishes she could hear more from us, but they’re told to keep the interview short because they’re on a very strict time-schedule. I know it’s unfortunate, but hopefully for the future we know to keep the answer straight to the point. I wish everyone luck on their next round of applications and in the program! ?

To be honest, I felt like I was cut off before I finished completing my first question, too. I think they must have done this in respect to time, because it didn't feel aggressive or rude to me. In the moment though, it did make me feel like I might have said the wrong thing or that my answer wasn't sufficient.
When I was talking to the interviewer, I think it was important for them to eliminate as much bias as possible so I think this might have been a procedural thing to test our ability to act under pressure.

I remember trying to enter a public LVN program when I was 20 and I kept getting rejected (4 times.) I thought it was so unfair. But I think to myself now that maybe I was meant to finish my pre reqs and apply for RN directly.
Please don’t give up guys, I understand how discouraging it is. I hope you guys never stop trying, because I believe that you will all be great nurses one day.
Yes guys, I was rejected multiple times too when I started applying 10 years ago, got impatient and changed my career to Surgical Tech and look at me know going back to school to finally accomplish my goal of becoming a nurse. Don't get discourage as our fellow student mentioned see it as a blessing in disguise. Your path is coming and it's going to be amazing, just keep applying. Best of luck to you all.
I spoke to someone there today and basically she said you either pass the interview or you don't. This is different from what they state in there website where it says that you get the chance to receive UP TO 5 POINTS. Nowhere does it state that you either get 0 or 5 or that is a pass or fail. Unless im crazy and not understanding it correctly I honestly think many of the people conducting the interviews are biased. It is more on wether they like you or not, not on the interview not on the skills not on how effectively you answer the essay questions. If your applying next semester the interview points carry over which means if you got 0 your points will stay at 0. You won't be given another shot at interviewing. I am willing to better my stats but not for this school, I will work on them for other programs instead. Although im sure they won't care either way, I won't be applying here again next semester. The whole process just does not make sense to me and I feel like it was not a very fair process. Good luck to those of you who decide to reapply. Im just venting!

Yeah you're right it doesn't say on the website you either get 0 or 5. I understood it that way as well when I was researching what I needed to get in and it does make it seem like, "you can receive up to 5 points"
Maybe when you reapply you can talk to them and ask if you can get another opportunity for a fair shot at the interview, you never know they may take your determination as a positive and allow you to redo the interview and possibly score some points!
Keep your head up, your time will come, stay positive and I know it can get discouraging but don't give up!

wow, are you serious?! That seems kinda unfair. I got zero points, but I figured I would have a second chance next application cycle, but I guess not. I had 89 points before the interview but didn't get selected even thought the cut off was 86. So now that I won't have another chance at the interview means I will stay at 89, LOL. I guess I'm gonna start filling out my application for west coast, fml.
By the way, when you fill out the application does it ask you if you have applied before? Because on my rejection letter says if you want to be considered again to send in a letter or else they will get rid of your file. So lets say I let them get rid of my file and I apply again next cohort will I be invited to the interview since they got rid of all my info? LOL just wondering...

Thats does not even make since, you should've been selected if your points where at 89. From what I understood of my conversation with her whoever had 86 or more should've been offered a position. I would call if I was you to try and figure out why you didn't get selected if you had the points for it. If they where really a fair program, you should've gotten selected for a spot. I saw someone who had 84 pts before the interview get selected. This is why I am saying that they try to make it seem like there selection process is fair when in reality it is not. Instead of actually going based on the skills, essay and how well you did on the interview they go based on if the person that interviewed you liked you or not. That is not very fair in my opinion.

Lmao I like the way you think ??? honestly im not applying again. Im sure they won't care but they left me with a completely bad impression from what I actually thought of the program. If I do decide to go back and get higher grades for some classes it won't be for this school. But hey it won't hurt for you to try it. Maybe you can get an interview again LOL

I sent an email asking "if the number of qualified applicants exceeds the number of spaces available does it become a lottery?" They haven't replied, but this seems to the norm for almost all community colleges. There is no way they only had 50 qualified applicants. They prob had hundreds of people with 86+ points and just started picking at random from that group.
I'm gonna email them again and ask if we can get another chance at the interview if we apply again in the fall. If not, then I'm moving on to other schools.

I can direct message you the the name and number of the person I spoke to today. You can call her tomorrow. Ask her why if the cutoff was 86 you where not selected. I don't understand why having the pts you have you where not selected. I believe they only give interviews to about 100 applicants. So that might explain how they don't have to do a lottery in the case some pple end up with same pts.
