Hello! I decided to open up this new thread for those applying for Spring 2014 entry at LA County College of Nursing. I recently took my TEAS for the first time, and I'm so relieved that it is over! Now the wait... A bit nervous about the whole process, but I am very hopeful. Anyway, just wondering who else out there has applied!
jdc2013- I was initially hoping to get into COC (due to it being closer to where I live) but unfortunately was placed on their waitlist. I'm not holding my breath on that though since new opportunities have arisen. I also gave up my spot at LA Trade Tech & Santa Ana College. I'm still waiting to hear back from LACC but if anything county will be my first choice. I hope to meet you at pre-registration.
@goldenheart10 sorry to hear about your situation at COC. That was one of the schools that I also thought about applying to...however, I was told that the English Comp course that I took (years ago) was not equivalent because I took it at a UC when I was an undergrad, and they have quarter units. I was one unit off (in COC's semester units), and I was not willing to retake it (trying to save as much $$ and time here)! Anyway, I'm happy about being accepted into County - and I hope to meet you at pre-registration as well.
I'm stuck and would love some help. I only appled to 2 nursing schools, LATTC and LA county and have been accepted to both. I can't decided which one to go with. From what i can tell everyone wants to go to LA county. What makes county so popular ? What are some of the advantages of county over LATTC or other junior college ADN programs ?

When did you get your acceptance from county?

I have the same dilemma. I got accepted to both schools; I've got la county letter of acceptance after I have paid lattc fees . I know la county has a better reputation, higher nclex passing score. I'll try to find more information about both schools to help me make a decision. I am going to attend info session next week to see the campus and instructors.
@Theone40 congrats on also being selected! Well if you don't already have your heart set on one particular school, I would choose based on what's most convenient for you. I'm not too familiar with LATTC, so I can't really voice my opinion in that regard. But if LATTC is closer or has a more convenient schedule, then choosing LATTC would be your best bet, especially if you've already invested in their fees. Also, consider how far each school is from your home (and/or work), and how much traffic you will be in each day.
Perhaps you should attend County's pre-registration and "feel it out" before you make your final decision. If you can comfortably see yourself being in one particular program over the other, then choose that school (whether it be County or LATTC). Yes, County's NCLEX rate is excellent and their clinicals are phenomenal, but at the end of the day you will be investing 2 years of your "blood, sweat & tears" (ok, so maybe I'm exaggerating a bit with the "blood" part! lol)! So just be sure to choose a program that is most comfortable for you, and not feel you should choose one over the other because one particular program may seem more popular than the other (not saying you are going to ultimately choose based on that). :)
I hope this helps a bit. Good luck and congrats on getting accepted to both schools! I'm sure you'll do great in whichever program you choose.
Hi everyone! I got a call last Friday from LA County. I guess I was placed on a waitlist but they told me that there was an opening for the clinical site that I chose.. So they offered me an admission. I didn't even know I was on the waistlist until they called and asked me if I received any mail from them.
I am torn because I also just got accepted to MSMC for their bridge program. I am an LVN and I just applied to the generic adn (figured I had nothing to loose by applying). Here I am.. Trying to figure out what to do! I would love to go to La County since I've heard soo much good things about the school as well as the cost but my down side is I would start all over again. MSMC on the other hand would be a lot more pricey since it is a private college. But tbh, the only difference with the time is it would take me about 1.5 yrs to finish the bridge for msmc and 2years for la county. Really the only difference is 6 months. I have to let them know by Wednesday if I'm gonna take the spot.. Since pre-reg/orientation is on Friday.
@slicksGIRL - Tough decision. Even though MSMC is more costly, you would finish 6 months earlier giving you an faster start at finding and landing a job which can easily make up for the amount of money spent at MSMC.

One thing I forgot to mention is that my LVN program cost me $30k which I've paid off about 4k since I started the program. Attending msmc would mean taking out another 30-40k. So my total loans upon finish would be about 60-70k. And I think that's a little too much for an ADN RN.

30-40k for an ADN is way too much. You should apply for the LVN - bridge for la county. Applications are being accepted from nov 15 - feb 15, so you have time. How many points do u have?

@supakimchee thank you for all the insightful info! I am just so humbled to even be accepted into this program! I attended a UC as an undergrad and I can tell you right now that I will just be grateful to keep my head above water and pass from one semester to the next! From what I've read from previous threads, I know just how challenging this program can be - so I'm a little nervous to say the least!
My good friend is in her 2nd semester at County and she is so stressed out that it's making me stressed just thinking about it! lol So please do continue to share whatever you can!
@goldenheart10 did you decide on County as your first choice after all? I know that you got accepted to many of the schools that you applied to! If so, I look forward to meeting you and everyone else that also got accepted!
