Hello! I decided to open up this new thread for those applying for Spring 2014 entry at LA County College of Nursing. I recently took my TEAS for the first time, and I'm so relieved that it is over! Now the wait... A bit nervous about the whole process, but I am very hopeful. Anyway, just wondering who else out there has applied!
Congratulations to those who got in. Im very worried now to be honest. I can't concentrate. I got decent grades and passed the TEAS the first time. I'm just starting to be
@jofapcastillo please don't be sad! I honestly think they send out letters in batches, so even if you don't receive anything next week, please do NOT lose hope! I know it's hard to hang in there while everybody is receiving their letters of acceptance, but when I spoke to someone last week - they said that "everyone would know" by end of November / beginning of December! I will be crossing my fingers for you, as I'd love to have you as a classmate this spring! So don't lose hope - sending positive vibes your way!

Thank you vey much, you really made me feel better. You're so nice! I'm trying not to feel so down and keep my strong faith up. Hopefully I'll get something positive by the end of this month. I will definitely let you know. I'm trying to be okay, but sometimes I can't help and think about it ? but I know I'll get something positive soon ? thank you so much!

@jofapcastillo glad to be of help! Do keep us posted, and just hang in there!
I have 2 co-workers who finished the program (one was offered a job in LA County but declined), and my fiance is currently on the 3rd semester of this program.
The basic gist I'm getting from talking to them is that the program is very challenging. The most important aspect seems to be critical thinking skills. Most quiz/test questions will not be straight forward and requires you to assess difficult scenarios and situations.
Basically, if you can get 70% or above on all the tests and quizzes, you should be very content (of course aim higher, but do not be discouraged if you are in the 70s). My fiance was panicking (straight A student, valedictorian, went to UC Berkeley, etc.) because she was scoring anywhere in the 70%-87% range during her 3rd semester, which happened to be her 1st semester at LA County (LVN to RN program).
All three people have told me: DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE PHARMACOLOGY! It is only a one unit course, but all three people have told me that pharmacology seems to be the bottleneck for a lot of students and the reason why many students fail/repeat a semester. I also heard about increased fail/repeat rates for Psych.
In terms of clinical rotations, I was told prep sheets are an absolute time sink (basically a detailed report you will have to complete for each patient you choose to follow). I will ask my fiance about clinical rotations in detail and report back if any of you are curious.
Basically, let's get ready to get our butts kicked!! Can't wait to meet all of my classmates!

I applied for the generic program. I had a total of 80 or 81 points and I got a 75.3 on my teas. I can't wait to meet you all!!!
