Los Angeles City College-Fall 2014 Applicants

Published

Hello future nurses!

I am starting this new thread for everybody that is planning to apply to LACC's nursing program for Fall 2014. How many of you are planning to apply for Fall 2014? I'll be finishing my last prerequisite (chemistry) this winter and hope to apply in February. Good luck to us all!

Does anyone know what classes we take in the first semester?

Sent from my iPhone using allnurses

1. Pharmacology-all semester (Nursing 103)

2a. Nursing Foundations-first 8 weeks of the semester (Nursing 104)

2b. Med-Surg-second 8 weeks of the semester (Nursing 105)

3. plus lab skills-all semester ( Nursing 115)

Thanks enzyme... Lab skills would be considered our clinical correct?

Nope! Lab Skills are done in school, in lab classrooms to help us be better at clinicals, it is a sort of preparation for clinicals, where you practice on dummies and on each other, gulp :-).

Clinicals (which are the clinical portion for Nursing Found and Med-Surg) are done on Tuesdays and Wednesdays in hospitals, with real people :-0.

Pharmacology, Nursing Found (and Med-Surg) lectures, and Lab Skills in school, at LACC (Mondays and Thursdays)

Hi guys!! I guess we're all going to be classmates!

I started a new thread but enzyme has already cleared up somethings for me.

Do you happen to know how long each day is or where we can park? Lol

Just to give you a picture about the days; everything is subject to change, of course :-)

Mon from 8-3pm (or even till 4:30pm)

Tue-clinicals from 7-5pm

Wed-clinicals from 7-5 pm

Thur from 9:30-4:30 pm

And apparently, we don't start the clinicals until our fifth week :-). We will be practicing on dummies and each other until then (bear in mind that this is the info from previous years (from my friends)-they might change how they go around those things, but I don't think so)

But of course, the schedule may vary a little once they give it to us at the boot camp, but that is how usually goes. You can see the schedule on LACC's website under Nursing, Registered. We will have Nur 103 (pharm), Nur 104 (Nurs Found with clinicals), Nur 105 (Med/Surg with clinicals), Nur 115 (skill labs)

Go to the business office and purchase a preferred parking permit (fall semester-$28) for three student parking lots (two lots are on Vermont and Monroe, these are open parking lots; and one preferred parking lot is right off Melrose and Heliotrope-it's a garage) Well, you can find all the needed info on their website, plus the parking map. Research their website a little to become familiar with everything. Also, there are plenty of 6 hour metered parking spots on Heliotrope ($1/hr). If you want to cruise around the neighboring streets looking for free parking, good luck ;-). But, I would suggest Heliotrope metered parking until you get a parking permit for fall. You can't buy it until your fall schedule of classes shows on your student profile. And, the nursing dept will have us all registered for classes after the boot camp. We don't have to do the registration. At least that's what my friend told me. Welcome to our cohort ;-).

I hope I helped :-)

Thank you! That was very detailed! Did you apply to any other schools?

Yes. I applied to three schools and I was accepted to all three ( PCC, County, and lacc) but I chose lacc as I know that the program is good and organized, plus it's much, much cheaper than County's. At County, the total cost is around 12,000 dollars , whereas at lacc less than $5,000 for the same degree. And lacc is my home college and I love it there :-)

I applied to those schools too. Have you heard anything about how the pcc program is? That's great that lacc is your home college, I just keep asking about them because I'm not fimilar to them. I've tried to research them but I can't find to much about it.

Well, I am pretty sure I gave a lot of information here, I wrote some long, extensive and detailed threads for people, I don't know what more one can need...

I am afraid I can't help you with PCC, it was my backup option, not familiar with them. You will have to ask the questions on their forum.

Does anyone know what the chances are of getting into LACC with an alternate number of 17? I'm at 17 now. I started at 40 and already jumped down to 17. The not knowing is KILLING ME!~ I can't plan or do anything for the future until I find out. I really pray I get in. I'm a bit older than a lot of you (I'm guessing) - time is of the essence. For all of you who have already been accepted - congrats! Anyone know anyone with this high of a number who ended up getting in?

Specializes in CNA.

I need to call them and drop my spot as I decided to go to COC. Good luck. I will call today
