Looks like I may not have a job

Try and think of this as a positive life change. You have solid experience in your work history. Do not belittle yourself just because you have yet to work in a hospital. You could do case management, maybe hospice, home health especially valuable if you have oasis knowledge. Make your resume professional and list in detail experience. There are probably many hospitals that would be willing to train you. Don't keep reminding people you interview with on what you can not do. Just say i will need to review certain skills. I myself work in a hospital and can not draw blood or insert IVs. Need to learn. Many units knowing the basic clinical skills is just fine. Let this be a time in your life that you find a job that excites you. Good luck on your journey!

Well, it looks like I may lose my job due to funding issues. I have always done the leaving before and I feel like I am really floundering. I would love any advice anyone has. I have a very non-traditional background, I'm 42 years old, and haven't done an IV since the 1 little butterfly on a classmate, have never drawn blood or sunk an NG etc....
1993 Graduated with ADN
1993 Went to work for 100+ MD clinic. Floated briefly and then worked the OB/Gyn clinic for 4+ years. At the same clinic did Case Management for 10 months (all hospitalized patients and those needing home therapies).
Moved to new state:
Worked for 4 years as Nursing Coordinator and staff clinic nurse for multiple office OB/Gyn group.
Moved to new state:
Worked 4 months as telephonic high risk OB Case Manager for medicaid insurance provider, but left due to commute.
Worked for the last 1 1/2 years as Clinical Research Coordinator. No certification, position losing funding.
What now? No refresher courses avail. currently and cannot really see myself trying to be a hospital nurse unless it was the OR.
I know this is long, but I really could use some input from Texas nurses who know how things are here in Texas (although anyone's advice would be welcome). I am in the Fort Worth area.

I'm not from Texas, but ... I would recommend having something in writing from your employer that says your position is being eliminated due to the lack of funds for the research. That way, you will have that to show a possible future employer and will not appear to have been fired for poor work performance. The same goes for any employee evaluations, etc. that would show that you have been a good employee.

I would also recommend some serious networking with the people who hired you and/or with whom you work. Do they know other researchers/academics who might need someone with your skills? Academic medicals centers, schools of nursing, etc. might also have a job for you. Even if it is just a temporary job and/or one that pays less than you would like, you might find something that way that would give you some income while you find something more substantial. Such a job might also put you in contact with other people who might have a job for you.

Don't they offer a refresher course at El Centro in Downtown Dallas for RN's? It is held a few evening a week for a few months. They have a perioperative nursing class too.

I know how much of a pain it is to go to downtown Dallas, but maybe it will give you more options.

I hope you find something that fits. I know how terrible it feels to be out of work. :stone

What about telephonic case management companies like Intracorp or something? They have lots of those positions in the DFW area.

Thanks for the input so far it is very much appreciated. I have glowing letters of recommendation from all previous employers, and I have worked in health care since I was 17. I was a unit secretary/monitor tech/nursing staffing coordinator from 17 to the age of until I graduated from nsg. school. I guess I just feel so lost because I have not lived in this area that long and I have never had a job where I was layed off. I have always had a job to go to when I left my other job's. Then again, maybe I am just having a mid-life crisis! Thanks again for your idea's and guidance.

El Centro also offers a perioperative program, or an maybe you could look into an insurance company for pre-op/procedure approval position.

I recently learned that I would be unemployed come December 1 after working for the same doctor office for 11 years at 47 years old. I was devastated thinking how I would support my family and pay my bills. The good Lord was watching out for me. start thinking WHEN ONE DOOR CLOSES ANOTHER WILL OPEN. check with the unemployment office they will provide training to anyone will they are unemployed. All good things come to those who wait. I did I will have another job come December 1 with doctor moving into the clinic with same benefits and same pay. GOOD LUCK :)
