Published

Is their an online nursing PDR that I can access? I did a seach, but no dice.

Specializes in Telemetry/Med Surg.

Not that I know of but here's a website that has listings of meds, s/e, etc.

Not that I am aware of. You can purchase a copy for a PDA.

PDA stands for Physician's Desk Reference, so this is not a nursing copy of that to begin with. Most nursing drug references also require that you purchase a copy.

You can search a specific drug and you will find the information for that one drug, but not for all for free.

Best that you will find will be the basics in Eposcrates, or something similar. But not strictly for nurses.

Specializes in med/surg, telemetry, IV therapy, mgmt.

i doubt very much that the pdr can be accessed on line for free as it is a proprietary property (privately owned). they do allow free access to certain professionals, but plain old staff nurses and nursing students are not part of that privileged list (i just went to their website and checked).

here is another online site to look up medications: http://virtualnurse.com/

you can find medications by clicking on a category of the medication as listed on the web page or clicking on a letter of the alphabet to get the drug information. drugs are listed by both brand name and generic name. you will be taken to more links for information about the individual drugs, many of them websites sponsored by the manufacturer of that drug where you may find a pdf file with the very exact same information that is printed in the pdr about that drug!

you should also become familiar with this site:

http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginformation.html which is designed to give the general lay public information about the specific drugs they are taking, very much like the information sheets you get from a pharmacist with each prescription you have filled.

I'm sorry! the answer was right in front of my nose the whole time! the Delmar PDR Nurse's Drug Handbook that I have has online access. I believe its free for anyone that registers, and all the info can be imported to a PDA it looks like as well. http://www.nursespdr.com/eCourses/Ndr/CourseImports/Course-1/search.asp

epocrates.com is a great PDA reference. You can download the free version or subscribe for the deluxe. It has adverse reactions, contradictions, adult dosage, peds dosage, also insurance plans if meds are paid for in their plan. Let me know how you like it!!!
