Looking for Nursing schools in California that accept International students

Hello, I'm a graduate of BSN in the Philippines batch 2012 and applied for NCLEX-RN here in California. After completing all the requirements the Ca-BRN wrote me a letter telling me that I have some deficiencies (MS, OB, Pedia and Psych) which have something to do with the concurrency issue and go back to school to complete the said deficiencies.

I asked some schools near my place. One school didn't credit all the subjects that I took which I have to go back to zero and other schools I'm still waiting for them to call back to meet with the counselor about my situation.

While waiting I want to ask if anyone knows some nursing schools that is accredited by the CA-BRN that accepts foreign students to enroll just the deficiencies. Thank you in advance to anyone who will reply to this message :)

what if I can’t provide copies of my clinical cases, any info on this?

When i emailed my analyst with this same question, she replied to me "We cannot process your application without the clinical cases" I was lucky that after 2 months of digging all my old files i was able to retrieve all the records the board was asking.

This is for anyone considering challenging the NCLEX-RN in another state and then filing for reciprocity, assuming that you wanted to work in California.

Yes, you still need to take the classes that the BRN is asking for. I mentioned the above scenario because I thought I will be waiting for a while take to take my OB class (it was not immediately available at Unitek, I needed to wait and they never had a confirmed date for the start of class). I wanted to use my time wisely after finishing Med Surg so I considered taking the NCLEX-RN in a different state.

@osis @zserah14 is right. I don't think they will be able to process your BRN application without your clinical cases. I needed to ask somebody from my country to ask my school for the documents that I needed. The BRN needed the school to send the documents directly to the BRN. I could not submit the documents myself.

@osis

Call your school. They have records of it. We all turned in our clinic cases before graduation, didn't we? And dig some of your old files/notes, etc. it happened to me, I thought I lost half of my clinical cases then I called my school and they said they have some of it and to find out, they actually have it all they kept a copy of our clinical cases.

did you submit your clinical cases to Ca BON directly? or they want it to come from your school?

Hello,

Im so sorry if this is off topic for I have not accessed this forum in years. To make it short, I was able to fulfill my deficiencies (MS and OB) at CSUSB- San Bernardino, CA. They are offering the Foreign Trained Nursing Program every summer. I was able to complete the program for 12 weeks only for both subjects. They have limited spots and very strict requirements such as vaccines (make sure you guys have your records or obtain titers for records). They gave me notice for the last 4 spots 3 days before the deadline (it was a Friday when they emailed me, and the application was that following Monday). Make sure you have the funds ready for all the possible programs they may offer you even if they say they could only get you to one class because thats what happened to me, they opened only for MS and when I got there, they had a spot for OB as well -so make sure you have enough funds for this. Please call the school to have you waitlisted and follow up, check your emails regularly and arrive VERY early for applications. Follow the instructions very carefully. Please feel free to ask if you have anymore questions. Don't give up guys! I searched for schools for 4 years before I found CSUSB-San Bernardino. Goodluck and God speed!

@PhatRN

Once they've received your clinical cases, CA BRN will send you a letter within 2 months and will let you know the next step. Either you need to gather more documents or CA BRN tells you the deficiencies you need to take. Good luck to all of us.

Hey nurse friends, if you are living around the bay area, Dominican University is accepting students for fall. I didn't make it this summer semester due to the high number of students that already enrolled before me. Fall class for med surg 2 will start on Oct 7th. You need to complete vaccinations, physical, letter from your employer if you're an LVN or a nurse from another state and also drug test, and most importantly the letter from the board. So if one of you is interested to enroll this fall you still have plenty of time to complete these requirements. I'm starting my med-surg 2 on this said date. It'll be fun if one of you will be my classmate. Lets work and study together!

Good luck! I did not pursue Dominican as they offer 3 MS classes for those who are not LVN nor have other state license. I enrolled in Unitek for MS class this summer as they only offered 1 MS and I have waitlisted in ELAC, CalBaptist, Fresno city college and AUHS for OB class. There are pretty much a handful of school that offers deficiency but with a long waitlist.

The record of complete clinical cases should come from your school and should be certified true copy. I received my deficiency letter a week after the school sent my clinical cases and academic calendar.
