Hi, I'm currently approaching my last year in the NP Program and desperately looking for an NP preceptor in the internal medicine field in the chicago, IL area. My school does not provide clinical sites for us students so we have to "go out there" and find a preceptor on our own. this process has proven to be extremely challening because there are no NPs "out there" who wanted to be stuck w/ a student for 3 months. Help!
thanks

You might try contacting the Illinois Society of Advanced Practice Nurses website - they can sometimes provide a few names of APNs that wouldn't mind precepting.

Nadine,
I hope you were able to find a preceptor for your last semester. I am currently in the same situation but I have 3 more semesters left of school!! I did not think it would be so difficult! I would love it if you could foward me some names of people that you have found in Chicago so that I might get in touch with them for some hours as well. Thank you.

Hi Kim
I finished my first rotation w/ an internist who doesn't usually takes on NP students (he is a good friend of the doctor whom I am working with at work). I am starting my 2nd rotation next week at the Lawndale christian community health center. You can google their name on the internet. My Lawndale preceptor already has 2 NPs students, not including me, so I don't think he could take on anymore students. Once I have started the rotation I will let you know if there are other NPs there who could take on students. are you a student at North Park University?

Hi Nadine,
I am in a similar situation to you, except I think by now you have graduated. I live in the north suburbs of Chicago so any help you could provide me would be helpful. I specifically need NP precepting hours. I have most of mine already with MD's so I need NP hours for graduation.
Thanks
Hi eclecticdp,
Look into this website CommunityHealth Chicago: Largest Free Clinic in Illinois and contact the nurse manager who is an NP. I spent my last year of clinical with her. She is an excellent NP preceptor. When I left to graduate in Dec, she already had a student for the summer but may not yet have a student for this fall so it's worth a try. When you talk to her, just mention that I was her NP student in the fall last year.
good luck!
Nadine
You might also contact the IL Society of Advanced Practice Nurses ISAPN.org - they have a list of members willing to precept.

Hi Nadine!
I know this post is old but I wanted to reach out anyway. Im in dire need of an NP or MD preceptor that's a primary care provider in internal medicine. I'm a 2nd year NP student starting my clinical at the end of this month. I initially had a preceptor that backed away at the last minute so need to find a new one ASAP! Any help is much appreciated!
