  1. I will first research their credentials and clinical experience, the type of practice and the reviews they get, then I would eventually interview withe the provider while telling them my expectations.
  2. Hi Nadine! I know this post is old but I wanted to reach out anyway. Im in dire need of an NP or MD preceptor that's a primary care provider in internal medicine. I'm a 2nd year NP student starting my clinical at the end of this month. I initially had a preceptor that backed away at the last minute so need to find a new one ASAP! Any help is much appreciated!
  3. Hello everyone. I'm currently in my 2nd year of NP school and starting my first clinical rotation by the end of this month and need a preceptor (either MD or NP) that is a primary care provider in internal medicine. Just to give you the back story, I initially had a preceptor but then she tells me earlier this week that she can't precept me the full 225 hrs as initially agreed upon. So now I have to find a new preceptor. I've called at least 50 providers (no exageration) which none said yes. I even called the Illinois Society of Advanced Practice Nurses as one person suggested, but you have to pay $100 to become a member and they can try to find you a preceptor but it's not guaranteed. Unfortunately, my school places the responsibility of finding a preceptor solely on the student. Please help!
  4. I did my physical/fingerprinting on July 13 and received my final offer September 2, so almost 2 months later.
  5. Hey everyone. I have a question. Does having a BSN automatically start you off as a level 2 nurse in Illinois? I have my BSN and over 3 years nursing experience. Also, do they count LPN experience as nursing experience? I heard some people say they don't. Thanks.
  6. WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT GIVE A RESIGNATION LETTER OR YOUR 2 weeks notice yet! The process could take up to 3 months before you actually start or even longer and they even say don't quit your current job until you get a firm offer with actual start date! Ive received my tentative offer back in July and still am going through the hiring process and haven't received a start date as of yet.
  7. What VA do you work at? Are the patient assignments usually fair? Do you know any about the spinal cord injury unit? I was recently hired for a position there.
  8. Natira23, I really appreciate your response and honesty. I have 3 years experience as a nurse, 1 year of that in psychiatric nursing but not in an in-patient setting. I'm sorry to hear you had to deal with the unprofessional staff. It's crazy that VA nurses can be that unprofessional and unwilling to do their job. I had no idea there was a2 year probationary period. Thanks for all the useful info! How are the patients? Are they really out of hand/violent? Since my psychiatric nursing experience was in long-term setting, I always imagined in patient psych patients being more unstable since they might be having acute psychosis which is why they may be admitted. 8 patients seems like a lot for one nurse. It does sound a bit discouraging. Are you full time there? I really appreciate your feedback.
  9. Hi Natira23. How is it working at the Jesse Brown VA in psych? I applied and wanted to get some feedback. Thanks!
  10. Hi Natira. I know your post is from last year but I seen it and wanted to ask some questions that maybve you could help answer. I recently applied for a job with the Jesse Brown VA in chicago also. How is it working there? Hows the nurse to patient ratio? I applied on the Community Living Center and Rehabilitation Unit on 6 west. Do you know anything about that unit? How are the staff there? Your feedback is greatly appreciated. You can respond to this thread or private message me. Thanks so much! -Stephanie
