  1. Hi - I am currently attending PCCTI in Oakbrook. It takes time for every program to work the kinks out, but I have to say that it has been fairly smooth for me up to this point. The instructors have a tremendous amount of knowledge and the leadership is in place to help you succeed through the program. Any Nursing program is about discipline, motivation and the desire of the student to succeed. Its the logistics that bring you to one program or another. You have your text book and a world full of educational resources, with that you can succeed. Be ready for commitment and dedication to primarily your academics. If you want to become a good nurse, you can do it through any nursing program that has been accredited by the Illinois Professional Regulations for Nursing. I say it is the individual, not the programming. Take responsibility for yourself, what you put into it, you will get out of it. G' luck!!! : )
  2. I didn't pursue Wilber Wright's program, but I did start another LPN program in August, private. My advice to you is to hang in there, I think they are all a little bit dis-organized. Unless they have been doing it for years. Stick with it and good luck!!!
  3. Wow! Times are hard for so many. Thank you for the tip. I wasn't going to use public transportation under any circumstances. Sorry about your friend.
  4. Thank you for sharing part of your experience with me. G'luck to you too!!! : )
  5. I'm also curious about the parking situation. Was it an issue to park in the lot next to the school ? If so, where did you go?
  6. They presented it as clinicals one day a week and lecture 3 9:00-2:30, total 4 days a week. What were your clinical sites like?
  7. Thats what I would need for the RN program, Chem and Micro. I purposefully haven't taken it, as I was looking for an LPN program (shorter term goal, to get back into the workforce) and believe I have finally found one : ) Does the transition program offer the same scheduling, flexible hours, as the LPN program does. IE: Mon - Thurs 9:00 - 2:30? Also, I'm wondering where were your clinicals in the LPN program? Did you do them from 9:00 - 2:30 or did they start earlier and run later one day a week?
  8. Congrats!!!! On your accomplishment! I'm sure it feels wonderful to have finally gotten thru the program. How long does it take if you continue with the RN program? What is your schedule going to be like?
  9. Wow wow!!! Good forf you! I've got all the general ed, and then some for their lpn program. I've got most classes for the RN program actually, but can't commit to 2 full years out of the workforce. I went to the information session a few weeks ago and filled out the application. I've been thru the advisor and all I need to to test out of Math and pass the enterance exam. How was the enterance exam? My intention are to take a basic math class this semester to strengthen my skills and then hopefully test out. I'm also wondering if I don't test out will they let me in? I'm applying for the Summer day session of 2010. I'm working in a contract until then. They did tell me that I could try to get into the Jan session, but it just isn't going to work for me. I have to pick up some home health care cases to be actively working as a CNA. The work I do now is for a school for all disabled children. Although the school is much like a day nursing home for children, she said it would'nt qualify in lue of the first rotation of clinicals. There is a tremendous level of care given to those children in a 6 hour day with us. The work I'm doing there is at a minimum LPN work, g-tube feeds, Mickey replacements, straight caths, med admn, suctioning, siezure monitoring, first aide ect... I've been in health care for over 20 years and I think I've reached a stand still. I won't be able to move onto my true love which is long term/assisted living geriatric care and hospice. I'm willing to go the extra mile to get to the bedside of a dying hospice patient. They have given a life of service to us as a society, we should at the least give back to them the utmost respect and quality care that they have earned. They should have the privaledge of transitioning in the comfort of their own home with pride, dignity and comfort. I have true passion for mankind and am willing to do whatever it takes to strengthen my knowledge and skills to get the honor of caring for them. Medicine is a complicated, complex industry, yet so intriguing and always eventful. I live, eat and breath healthcare learing something new everyday. to move onward in the future, but my short-term goal is to get thru the 1st year. What was your lecture days like? Where were your clinicals at? and did they run the same hours as the classroom? 9-2:30?
  10. Are you in the bridge from LPN to RN program? If so, did you take the LPN program at the Humbolt Park location? How much longer do you have to go? What has been the hardest part up to this point?
  11. Thank you again Sandy for your honest experienced opinion! It is so hard to decide where to make the commitment to. This program is very difficult to find, let alone get into. Did you have to wait to get in? Everyone is always at a different pace so the clique thing doesn't bother me. I'm a self-studier at my own pace, I do better alone. How many did your class start out with and then how many graduates did it have? What were the clinical sites like? And were they all near the center? I have all long-term care experiene, none in the hospital. So, I have to be honest, that makes me a little nervous. I guess the best thing to do is just go with the flow. Everyone else is new to it too. I know I'm so full of questions, but you've alrady done it :) Where you from the area? What was the neighborhood like? And the parking situation? Did you ever have a problem with parking? I can't thank you enough for your time while sharing your situations you've been placed in with me. Its your experience I'll use to build confidence in this decision making process. I'm actually going to their nursing orientation meeting, so I'm sure I will have a better feel for things then.
  12. Thank you so much for your honesty SPower, Congrats on finishing the program and hopefully you have since then landed the job of your dreams! My goal is to get to the bedside of hospice patients in their homes. I'll get there eventually. Thank you so much for sharing your honest experienced opinion on the program. I latched onto this statement, "but the culture of the school was unecessarily stressful and at times toxic." I am a middle aged caucasian women wondering if I'm going to have a problem getting through. I understand that the vast majority of the student body is hispanic. I've grown up in an area with 90% hispanic, so thats not my problem. I just don't want to encounter unnecessary passive resistance along my journey. We are all after the same thing, training, education and the ability to move forward in our area of expertise. The program can be stressful enough, without someone making it harder for you. What exactly did your statement mean?
  13. Sandy, I c your in the LPN program at Humbolt Park location, how is the program going for you? How difficult do they make their program? How far along are you?
  14. Hi Nicole, I'm considering applying at Wright CC for the LPN program. I'm wondering if you got into their program in June and if so? How is it going?
  15. Hi, I'm very new at this so please be patient with me :) I've researched the LPN program with Wilbur Wright College at the Humbolt Park Vocational Education Center in Chicago, IL. Has anyone attended the program? Can anyone tell me how the program was? Did they make it so hard you could hardly get through it, or was it achievable? Some programs make is so complicated, I'm wondering if anyone has any feedback from this one.
