hoping_2b_rn, wow, thanks for that info!! How do you like the program at AIMS? If you're in your 4th semester, does that mean you're almost done? How are the clinicals -- do you have to go to other cities for any of them? Thanks! :nurse:

Hi! Yes, I do like the program. Of course, I think every program has their issues, and Aims is no different.

The clinicals are great. I have had to go out of town a few times. I went to McKee for a rotation and the hospital in Brighton for a rotation. Other than that, I have been at NCMC. There have been other clinicals groups that have gone to the VA in Cheyenne and MCR.

Does anyone know about American Sentinal University nursing program? I saw that it was CCNE accredited. Is anyone out there going there or have graduated from there? Do most Denver area hospitals hire grad from there?

You have to have an RN license before you can apply. The programs offered are RN-BSN (ASN to BSN basically), RN-MSN (ASN to MSN) or BSN - MSN. For the MSNs program, your license needs to be active, from what I understand. Not sure, ashaffer, if you are already are nurse - I guess since they have no entry RN degree is why I never heard of them or checked them out. They show up on the CCNE website as accredited, however I did not find them on the Higher Learning Commission website as affiliated

I'd call them, talk to them, and ask them about their accreditations.

I was curious if anyone out there possibly started the CU Denver B.S.N. program this month, and could tell all of us how it is going so far!

-What is your course load first semester?

-What are your initial impressions of the professors? Any recommendations?

-Did you have an orientation before the Janaury start? If so, when was it?

-Was there any mention of the application cohort of summer 2010 (as far as how many people applied, or any other info!)?

Any information you could provide would be outstanding. Any nibbles of info will keep us anxious applicants pacified until March. You know exactly how we feel right now!

Has anyone graduated from this program or currently a student? How hard is it to get in?

I live in Golden, Colorado, and would be willing to commute for part of the program and then rent for a year down in Colorado Springs.

I'm waiting, but all my excitement has gone the way of the Dodo. When I sent in my CU application they told us to send in every transcript, so I even sent them my Canadian transcript from 20 years ago. No classes can/will be considered but I followed the rules. I just found out that CU will calculate all classes, irregardless of age, into the accepted GPA (I bombed my third semester, 20 yrs ago). I expect to graduate Summa Cum Laude at the end of this semester with my AS and yet my GPA won't be near high enough now. I feel crushed and hate myself because following the rules probably just cost me my admission.
Anyway, after a few days of being totally being depressed and having sleepless nights, I picked myself up and figured out plan B. As my plan stands right now, I will finish this semester and get my AS, get my CNA this summer, take a Patho pre-req class this fall (and any others I need later) and apply to Aims for fall of 2011 (FRCC has too long of a waitlist). Once that is done I have decided I will pursue a BSN/MSN-NP combo online degree, probably through Graceland U. The whole combo might only cost me slightly more than CU and less than DSN would overall.
I may have hit a bump, but I am too determined and too stubborn give up my goals that easily!

When is the last time you checked FRCC wait list. Well actually you are probably talking about Westminster huh? Our wait list at Larimer was really long (I waited 3.5 years) Now I know people getting on it and getting an estimated start date of a year, I know we will be trying to go more competitive, we also just got the NLN licensing, or NLNAC I get the school one and the day confused and I am tired LMAO. Anyway, it's not officially announced for a few more weeks but the National Accreditation, I have many students in my class that on the BS wait list and only had a year wait, but now I am being told the regular wait list is shorter then the previous BS one.

Lori that does the admissions is super good at her estimations. She told me in march of 2006 I was looking at most likely a Fall 2009 admission date and that was exactly what I got.

Anyway, my point, if you have all your pre reqs done, maybe you can get on the waitlist now, and take the patho and whatever else you can get out of the way in the meantime and find out the wait isn't as long anymore. As of right now, you still only need the 2.5 cumulative GPA on ONLY your 5 Pre Req courses.
