Looking for LPN school in Colorado

U.S.A. Colorado

Published

I am looking for a LPN program in Colorado. I heard Emily Griffith has a great program but I want to later move into RN program. I also checked in Regis What do you think?

The only one I know of that is still doing wait list is Front Range Community College. I would be curious if anyone knew of others that were on wait list.

Regis told me to retake Chemistry even though I have an A.S. in Chemistry. Apparently they didn't think my laboratory experience was extensive enough.

Ouch. Did you take that up to the Department Chair, especially since applicants only have to have one (basic) Chemistry class anyways?

I noticed that UC Denver is going to begin reviewing applications 2x a year from now on, once for the summer admission and once for spring admission. When I applied last fall, prior to the change, I was under the assumption that all applications received by Nov. 15th would be considered for both Summer 2010 and Spring 2011 as it used to be, and that we would be notified of acceptance status for both start dates in March 2010. Now, however, it appears that there will be additional competition from those who apply during the April 1-June 15th 2010 window for Spring 2011. So discouraging since they already had a record number of applicants! Per their website, Those who applied for the Summer 2010 admit term and do not get admitted will automatically be considered for Spring 2011 without having to resubmit credentials and pay an additional application fee.

So what I'm wondering is this--if we get a rejection letter in March for Summer 2010, does that mean that our applications will get reviewed again with the second batch of Spring 2011 applicants and we have to wait again for the acceptance or rejection letter that will come later this year? I had e-mailed an advisor asking about this last month but never heard back. Has anyone attended a recent info session that can give us the scoop?

thanks

Does CTU's RN program still exist? Thought I saw them marked as "inactive"

From the website of Arapahoe Community College (Littleton): ...the application process will be reopened to the the competitive qualifications process when all students who had been placed on the waitlist through December 19, 2008 have been accepted into the nursing program. The estimated time to re-open ...is fall 2011....but it may occur earlier or later.

Sand Dollar from your posts you sound like you have a fantastic GPA on your prereq's. Aren't you waiting to hear from CU, Denver now??? I'll keep my fingers crossed for you so you don't have to wait any longer. Isn't this all just crazy?:uhoh3:

No, I guess I could ask. I am in the Chem class now.

Summit, which Chem class are you in. They told me I could take any of them. That's not very encouraging that you have an AS in chem and they had you take another class.

That is how I would understand it (2 separate admissions/rejection letters at different times). It makes a lot more sense to do it this way (I was wondering why they did it the old way anyways) but that does put us into a group of even more competitors.

I'm waiting, but all my excitement has gone the way of the Dodo. When I sent in my CU application they told us to send in every transcript, so I even sent them my Canadian transcript from 20 years ago. No classes can/will be considered but I followed the rules. I just found out that CU will calculate all classes, irregardless of age, into the accepted GPA (I bombed my third semester, 20 yrs ago). I expect to graduate Summa Cum Laude at the end of this semester with my AS and yet my GPA won't be near high enough now. I feel crushed and hate myself because following the rules probably just cost me my admission. :banghead:

Anyway, after a few days of being totally being depressed and having sleepless nights, I picked myself up and figured out plan B. As my plan stands right now, I will finish this semester and get my AS, get my CNA this summer, take a Patho pre-req class this fall (and any others I need later) and apply to Aims for fall of 2011 (FRCC has too long of a waitlist). Once that is done I have decided I will pursue a BSN/MSN-NP combo online degree, probably through Graceland U. The whole combo might only cost me slightly more than CU and less than DSN would overall.

I may have hit a bump, but I am too determined and too stubborn give up my goals that easily!

I am so sorry :( don't count yourself out yet!! Is Aim's the only CC you are considering? I would really think about it because I would think about it before you get your AS I am sorry again (((hugs))) I hate when you follow the rules and then get screwed....it has happen to me

I will look at any other suitable program around the Denver area, but it has to be accredited so I can get my BSN online later. Aims is an hour away for me and I would like something closer, but it's all just time now. I will check out ACC and find out what I have to do to get on their list. Any suggestions of other programs... I don't think I can justify the expense of DSN right now.
