Due to budget cuts, and the economy in California, there is very few jobs. I am not sure how much your OR experience will help you find a job, as many nurses with experience are currently unemployed. I know the worst area to attempt to find a job is the Bay Area (San Francisco). That is like winning the lottery to get a job. You may have more luck in other parts of the states, but as of right now, the opportunities are very limited.
Good luck to you.
California is dealing with a horrible economy at the present time. Since people are having fewer elective surgical procedures and operations due to being uninsured or underinsured, the chances of finding a nursing position in a California OR are not going to be good. The nursing job market is not good here.
Do not despair, the job hunt is not impossible here. I am med/surg and I had two job offers within 1 week of applying & interviewing for both. I think OR jobs are still very much needed (although I dont ever pay attention to postings for those). I'm not sure what further training you may need being from out of the country, but you should inquire. Just dont be afraid to try. What area of california will you be going to?

I am a new immigrant from Israel and I have a Californian RN licence and a permanent residency status in the U.S. I have plans to relocate to California in June. I have 3 years of not american OR experience. What are my chances to find an OR RN position in CA? Can you recommend me regions or hospitals to look for a job?
Thanks for your help.
