Looking for Information

I have a question that has driven me crazy for many years. I am hoping that someone here will be able to help me. I have done tons of internet research and asked countless number of health care workers and no one knows.

Years ago (1940's) my mother had a baby boy die at the age of 6 weeks by what the doctor at the time called "bohives". What exactly is "bohives"? I am trying to figure out what it would be called today. I see references to it occasionally on the internet but no explanation as to what the heck it is or what it is comparable to in todays diagnosis's. I am almost to the point of thinking the doctor didn't know what the heck happened and just made something up.

I got nothing but "check spelling" when doing a search for bohives. Is it possible your mom is pronouncing it wrong? Would it be possible to get a copy of your infant brothers death certificate? With that in hand you could see the determined COD. And if it is "bohives" maybe its spelled differently?

Ok, I tried searching for bohives too, then I tried infant hives...and then I found infant botulism from honey. I wonder if it could be that? Search for infant botulism and read the symptoms. Maybe it will make sense to you (or your mom!) Good luck.

botulism from honey would make sense since they (my daughters peditricians) were emphatic that I NOT give them honey until they were well over a year old due to infants dying from botulism from honey.

Humm, wonder if thats what it was.

Thanks for the responses. I will research this. No luck so far getting death certificate. Brother died in Kentucky in the early 1940's....was a death certificate ever filed?

All states have offices of vital statistics - birth/death/marriage records, etc. I simply googled Kentucky vital statistics.
