Looking for Accelerated BSN program, but ...

Hi, I have a degree in Political Science and am looking to go into nursing through an accelerated program. My grades weren't so hot early on and this has dragged my over-all GPA down ... my later grades (when I became more serious) were much better. So, here is my issue: I'm living in San Diego and have been told (thankfully) by Cal St. San Marcos that I will be accepted into their Accelerated BSN program, because my GPA within my last 60 earned credit hours is over a 3.0. (Their requirements, I believe, are to be over a 2.75 GPA within the past 60, but I meet that, so great). But, I'm wondering if anyone out there knows of any other programs around the country who offer the same sort of leniency, knowing that some students (like me) take longer to mature than others. It's been difficult to google for such programs, because how do I guess ... 60 hours, 50 hours, 72 hours, etc.? Anyway, does anyone know of any of these types of accelerated programs, or a site which may direct me to a whole list of them? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think a lot of schools will focus on your last 60 credits if your overall GPA is low. I got in to Drexel and my undergraduate GPA was 2.79 (which does not count a semester at a school I didn't graduate from where I basically failed everything), but have really good prerequisite grades.

Anyway, does anyone know of any of these types of accelerated programs, or a site which may direct me to a whole list of them? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I first created a list of pre-reqs I was willing/able to complete. I made a list of states I knew I wouldn't want to live/move to, and then started visiting sites. It was pretty easy as many states shared similar pre-reqs and costs... I found PA, FL and OH to be the most appealing in my scenario. If your future goal is becoming a CRNA.. you could always do a cheaper ADN program (since you already have a degree) and to a ADN to MSN program - as there are plenty of them out there.

Hey Aaron,

I'm not sure if you're looking specifically for options outside San Diego but if not, there is a satellite program through the University of Oklahoma in San Diego and they look at the last 60 units. I also just found out about an accelerated BSN with option to continue for an MSN through Azuza Pacific (they have a satellite campus in mission valley). I haven't met with them so I'm not sure what GPA they look at, but it may be worth checking out. Hope this helps!
