Lonestar students- what's your schedule?

Published

Anyone who goes to lonestar college. What is your schedule like with clinicals? Now that I finally have a chance of getting accepted -I'm stressing- My husband works graveyard 60 hours a week- So I pretty much have to rely on traditional daycare. Any info is appreciated. Thanks in advance. :uhoh21:

ADN program?? Guess it would depend on which campus you're at...Kingwood has a day and evening program. Lecture is 2x/wk, skills lab 1x/wk and clinical is 1x/wk...your choice of either Tues, Thurs, Fri or Sat.

I go to Kingwood now. This is my first semester soon to be over the first week of May 08. I go to school on Monday 10-3, Tuesday Clinical 0630-1600, and Wednesday 12-3. Monday from 10-12 we have an on campus lab class that is required attendance. From 12:30-3 on Mon. and Wed. we have lecture. Lecture is NOT mandatory but it is good to go to as the teachers sometimes give hints as to what is going to be on the test plus they give handouts. Mostly everyone goes but many do not.

Hope this helps and good luck

I go to Montgomery. I graduate May 8th....1st yr schedule consisted of two clinical days and two lecture/lab days per week.

Second year consisted of one 12 hr clinical and two lecture days per week.

I think most of the schools dropped the two day a week clinical and now it is one week.

Atrice congrats on your graduation. Do you know where you are going tow be working?

I'm also at Kingwood but I go at nights. Monday is lecture from 5-7 then lab from 7-9, wednesday is lecture from 5-8 then saturday clinical for me from 0630-1600.

Thanks....I accepted a GN internship through the Memorial Hermann System (don't want to tell the specific hospital).

Why is an internship required for a new grad? I am starting my first year of the ADN program at North Harris this Fall '08, so there's quite a bit I have to catch up on.

An internship is not required, but as a new graduate it is beneficial. You are one-on-one with a preceptor (an experienced RN). Unfortunatly we do not come out of nursing school knowing everything (OMG is that statement not the truth):uhoh21:. We are novice and as a graduate nurse passing the NCLEX only means that we meet the "minimum" requirements to practice as a registered nurse.

Good luck to you. My sister is graduating from North Harris ADN program.

atrice can you tell us how much you are starting out at?

I am starting at $23.11/hr base pay and will be doing days for the first two months of my internship and the last month I will go to nights. The night shift diff is $4.00/hr and evenings is $3.65/hr more.

atrice how is your sister liking the program at north harris? about half of the folks i've talked to liked it and the other half said it was unnecessarily hard.
