Lonestar 2014 Fall Hopefuls!

Published

Ok I know it's very early starting this but I am so excited I couldn't help it! Application period doesn't even start until January! My journey has been a long one and I am seeing the light at the end of the tunnel so I am sharing a little of that experience here and I would love to hear from others as well.

I just received my clearance letter from the BON so I am clear to apply in January for North Harris and Montgomery ADN programs, unfortunately I missed Kingwood. At this point I have an 11.1 and I'm about to retake the HESI so we shall see what is in store for me. I'm done with all my pre-reqs for my BSN and I'm so ready to start the next phase of my education and get on with more taking care of people! It's been 25 years since I decided I wanted to be a nurse. Twenty years of raising my kids, taking care of soldiers' families and single soldiers and eight years of riding in an ambulance later, I'm ready to follow my dream! Watch me go!

Well! I was hoping to take my HESI on Jan 2nd but the testing center will not be open until next week, which means I will only be able to take the test ONCE before the application period is over (60 day rule). I'm thinking I may just wait until the first week of Feb. to take the exam. The pressure is on. Only one chance to get a good score.

Maybe someone can clear this up for me. When do you apply to the nursing program? Do you start taking hesi and fill the app after all pre reqs are done??

Hi Ashley,

The next application period is Jan 15th through March 17th. It is highly recommended that all of your prerequisites are completed to ensure a higher point score. I believe it states on the LSC website to start the application process before you complete the HESI. I am testing on the HESI in February and turning in my app the first week of March. Good luck to you!

You can do it, once is all ya need! I'm taking mine early February as well. That give us all this month to study!

Hi Ashley!

Kenken is right. In fact the system won't let you apply until you've completed A&P1, Comp 1 and Psych 1. The more co-reqs you have completed the higher your admission score will be also but they arent required to apply. I downloaded the course program and score sheet off the website to help me keep track of what I had done and still needed to do. The website does mention starting the application before taking the HESI but I didn't. I'll be retaking it early February though so I can finish my application by the end of the month. So excited, it's been a long haul for me!

You can apply as soon as you finish A&P 1, Pysch 1, and English 1. You don't however HAVE to wait until you start the application to take the HESI. I already passed my HESI in September and your scores are good for one year. I actually applied (after already passing the HESI) and was chosen as an alternate for both Kingwood and CyFair but decided to wait and go closer to home after finishing my pre reqs this fall. It took me three try's to pass the HESI and I would really encourage everyone to go ahead and take it as soon as you can to give yourselves more chances before the application deadline. You can only take it once every 60days. The time I finally passed I bought the HESI study guide book that the website recommended and passed no problems!!

That kind of up to you. The admissions process is based on a 12 point system spread out in three sections. The minimum req. to put in your application is to take and pass all 5 sections of the HESI, have A&P I, English 1301, and Psyc 1301. The HESI and these courses make up two sections. The third section has a list of 31 co-reqs hours, the more you have before the enter the program...the better.

Applications open today! Yay! Almost ready! I'm taking the HESI first week in February then dropping my app in as soon as my score populates!

Woo hoo!!! I'm so excited! But can't drop mine off till the last minute due to taking one 8 week class. Lol! No pressure or anything!

This will be my 2nd time applying! I am applying for Cy-fair and NH and keeping my fingers crossed I get into one. I have a 10.76, I know its low but I dont want to risk re taking the Hesi and failing!! I have hope this time around, I was an alternate last semester.

I really hope you get in this time! It's emotionally draining I know. I am applying to North Harris/Montgomery. Just so ready to get the ball rolling!

Yes it is! same here, hate that we have to wait so long to know just wish the time would fly by lol
