Lonestar 2014 Fall Hopefuls!

Published

Ok I know it's very early starting this but I am so excited I couldn't help it! Application period doesn't even start until January! My journey has been a long one and I am seeing the light at the end of the tunnel so I am sharing a little of that experience here and I would love to hear from others as well.

I just received my clearance letter from the BON so I am clear to apply in January for North Harris and Montgomery ADN programs, unfortunately I missed Kingwood. At this point I have an 11.1 and I'm about to retake the HESI so we shall see what is in store for me. I'm done with all my pre-reqs for my BSN and I'm so ready to start the next phase of my education and get on with more taking care of people! It's been 25 years since I decided I wanted to be a nurse. Twenty years of raising my kids, taking care of soldiers' families and single soldiers and eight years of riding in an ambulance later, I'm ready to follow my dream! Watch me go!

Here is the list it got far back lol

I think they do ! I hope they do because I applied to 3 campuses and I'm hoping to get in somewhere !

I think from my understanding is everyone no matter where you applied will all be put on a list with your scores then they do it by highest scoring people get their first choice then when they get to you if your school is full you get your second choice or 3rd.

Has anyone done their background check ? I was told to do it after you were accepted is that the case ?

Yes you generally don't want to do that until you are accepted because they will give you all of that information through your email. (I was accepted as an alternate last semester.)

Thank you I'm so nervous ! :(

Ahh the dreaded waiting game begins!

And Amberly27 is right. You don't need to do any background stuff until you get accepted UNLESS you have some sort or arrest/criminal history then you have to get a declaratory order from the BON saying you will be able to sit for the NCLEX when the time comes.

Two more added to our growing list! Good luck y'all!

Just a word of advice for anyone who does need to send a declaratory order to the BON. Do this as soon as possible! It took forever to find my record and six weeks to receive my " all clear" letter from the BON. I only had a forgotten traffic violation I was arrested for 20 years ago. Not trying to freak anyone out but if I had been more familiar with the process, or asked more questions on this forum I would be halfway through nursing school by now. So ask questions! If someone here cant help you we can find the info for you!

If you do not need to submit a declaratory order then, as others have stated, you must wait until you receive instructions to do your background check. If you've submitted a DO and already received a letter stating you've passed the Board review, then you may receive your blue card soon after your acceptance letter into the program and won't have to repeat the background check.

Oh... and N.H told me that if we didn't receive a letter by mid April to call! I'm sure the same would apply to the other campuses as well!

Add me to your list please I turned in my application to North Harris with an overall score of 11.44. It has taken me a while now to apply to the program because I wanted to make sure that I had all A's for my prereq's and along the way I have had a couple of withdrawals from courses. Also I decided to retake a couple of classes from years ago to get a better grade and bring up my GPA. Do you think all the retakes and withdrawals could affect my chances of getting accepted into the program?

I don't think so because I think they just look at the higher grade. I was not good at math and I took 3 years of remedial math and that has made my gpa low but I wonder if when they look at my application of they can calculate them out since their not needed to be accepted ?

No they will only look at the required classes and your score. Did you do the form to switch the grades when you made a higher one?
