Lone Star Spring 2011

Published

Okay, for all of us that did not get into the Lone Star Fall 2010 program and are trying again for the Spring...here we go again.

I'm retaking AP2 this summer (I have a B so now I want an A) to increase my points. After that I just don't know what else to do because I have all co-reqs completed, CPR done and Immunizations done. What are your plans to increase your chances of getting in for the Spring?

Hi everyone, are we getting the info on the background checks when we go to orientation or can we do them ahead of time. I hate waiting when I could just get it over with, and orientation is Dec. 2, so I already have plenty to do around the holidays. I read that some of you have already done them.

wzamen01, I posted this in a earlier post. Not sure this applies to CyFair.

You have to wait on the email from the college. There will be a number that must be given to the office doing the background check. The college will stress to you when you get the email, call and make the appointment a.s.a.p. I am not sure you can do it before orientation because the email has all the instructions included. Hope this helps.

I got a packet in the mail that has things for "additional info sheet" "emergency procedures" "health history" "physical exam" "immunizations", etc.

Has everyone else gotten this? Have you started filling it out? Classes start in less than 3 months!!!

her name was bleeped out.....can you send it to me again? Thanks!

I have a question. Kingwood lists two dates for orientation. Can you just pick which ever one is more convenient and go, or do you need to call and let them know which one you would like to attend?

hi songbird,

[color=#00bfff]i go to lone star as well, i am already in the program so i am able to answer your question :). first off, congratulations for making it!!!!!

[color=#00bfff]about orientation: you do have a choice of which session to attend, but you do have to let the college know which one. my campus required us to confirm our session by email (i forgot who it was we had to email), but i picked the day that worked better for me and sent the email, and asked that she send a return email to me to make sure she got it. because they had told us that if they didn't hear from us before orientation, they assume you are not planning to attend nursing school anymore and they basically give you the boot. not sure how your campus will handle it, but definitely call, email, and find out who you need to confirm your orientation day with. you are going to a different campus than myself, but same college system, so i think it's prob pretty safe to assume they will want you to confirm the orientation date with a certain someone at your campus. good luck to you!!!

okay, i just re-read my letter. my letter of conditional acceptance into the nursing program beginning spring 2011, does not state we need to select a date for orientation. it states "your final acceptance into the nursing program is dependent upon your meeting the following criteria listed below, by the deadline, or you will lose your place in the program." intent to enroll form and authorizations to release educational records deadline october 8th. hepatitis verification and toefl deadline december 1st. new student orientation (attendance is mandatory) october 28th 2011 (which is the incorrect year) and october 29th 2011 (incorrect year listed again). traumalifeiner, would you please tell me if your letter specifically stated that you must contact the college with a date of attendance?

thanks,

*Attention Kingwood Future nursing students*

I spoke with the administrative assistance at the Kingwood nursing department and we are NOT required to contact them to select a orientation session. Her specific response was "Just show up." I did confirm the date since there is a typo on the letter. The year listed on the letter is 2011 which we know is not correct.

Hope this helps or calms some nerves. :uhoh3:

See you soon! :yeah:

You are welcome. I got so nervous :uhoh3: when I saw the post that I emailed the college immediately. I know I am slightly OCD so I would not have been able to rest comfortably until I had an answer. I haven't been on the site as much since receiving my acceptance letter. I like to check back from time to time and see if anyone else is just as excited as I am. Well we can relax now and look forward to orientation in one week. :D

Guys please prepare yourselves and your families for your time in nursing school. prepare now to have as much time as possible for school. Im doing pretty well and i can tell you majority of the ones who arent doing well are the ones who keep having family and work issues crop up. it doesnt do any good to sign up for this intense of a program then bring youre clinical group and yourself down due to inability to complete assignments and study for tests. Please dont be that person who doesnt contribute in study group because you never did the reading and dont know your stuff... there i vented,, i feel better now "back to doing the group research by myself" ugg.

EmBeMap, I wish you the best. Remember one thing...We are all human and you deserve the right to vent. Have a great night.
